So while rebuilding the 91 hatch, I put a new tranny in. New xtd stage 3 clutch, 11lbs flywheel, new one piece driveshaft. New cusco engine mounts and peak performance race tranny mounts.
It shifts smooth and quick, no grinding, easy clutch, picks up easily from standstill super easy all’s good… however this new tranny is giving me some issues…
I get some kind of clicking coming from the tranny… I thought first it was the new exhaust leaking but nope… all is well not a single leak and it turned out clicking is definetely from the tranny as I put my ear right there (yeah smart if something blows LOL). No its not the marble noise from the engine (although similar), i had the chain guides removed. No more marble noise
So thats the first issue
When I drive it, more anoying… sometimes this violent clunking of sorts inside or dung dung dung dung comes on… but if i press clutch it goes away. It comes and goes… So flywheel touching or something?! But my friend/mechanic is like no probably not that… but i don’t know, and he wants me out of his shop as the car was being rebuilt for like two months on his hoist lol…
The third thing is, on decell there is a slight very barely audible dung dung dung (while in gear and u let go off pedal).
I need some tips to resolve this asap… this is annoying and its a set back in finishing the car. I have to sort out a few quirks out of the car right now and this is a big one… not very confidence inspiring when driving. Suspension is done all mint, drives amazing, just needs to be tuned… but this is annoying and I need this sorted out…
Hmm, those xtd clutches have had mixed reviews but for the 240 guys in general that have used them, they haven’t had any problems with the stage2 but more assuringly the stage3 that most opted for on forums…
make sure u installed everything properly, but also I guess the fail rate for a ebay clutch might be higher than your average brand name clutch.
well honestly ever since i posted this i got used to it lol. i mean its given the KA so much response and revability… it rocks… its easy to downshift and upshift like no time… very easy to drive agressively so that kinda wins in my cheque book thats all i care about in the end… it is kinda anoying but whatever you get what you pay for… its not high quality but it does the job.
i intend to stay KA with boltons until i go ls1/2/6 anyways… so itll do for me… the car drives like a dream and can only get better the more i tweak and tune it with what ive got, improve my driving and just keep tracking it…
i am quite busy so im slowly gathering a few bits i need and ill have it at the shop in a week or two to get everything ready for this year. I drove it for a month after i put her back together (major project overhaul) and it was all worth it. Obviously this driving period was right before winter so i didnt get to finish whatever I had to (it was just a test, finding issues, etc…)
I do not want to be exagerating but fuck ferraris and other exotics… our cars have so much potential when setup right including being great grip cars. Takes work compared to some other factory cars but its very possible and all worth it. In my opinion its mostly having to do with most ppl being dorifto jdm obsessed fans lol… that our cars do not get represented enough in grip/lapping terms… Our cars can kick major ass.Down in the states the 2006 redline time attacks champ was a 240sx… and of course we all know sasha with his s14… both cars were only 300whp.
That being said… I am really looking forward to this year… and I intend to stay NA KA
Edit: One of the sound I didn’t know about was the differential and the solid subframe bushings… so… ya However some of it is due to the clutch kit definetely…
