Troubles starting after 2yrs....but there's a twist to the story.

Ok here’s the low down. I’m going to do this in point form to make it as easy as possible.

Info
-98’ Type X SR motor
-gas is 2yrs+

#1
-car sits for 2yrs driven into an underground parking lot. everything was working well at the time.
-we try to start it today, but put battery on backwards
-put on battery the right way
-compression test it
-try to start it
-no start
-notice that even when keys are on ACC, nothing works. No horn, windows, INSIDE lights nothing.
-only thing that works are headlights

#2
-we flooded the engine by compression test at WOT
-take out spark plugs
-let the gasoline air out
-try again, no dice.

#3
-we try to find spark on the coils
-no spark

#4
-we try putting the spark plug into the coil while out of the engine, touch the head to see if we see a spark at the spark plug
-no spark

#5
-we try cranking it over again, and notice that the lights above where the rearview mirror turned on when cranking the motor.
-horn, acc, windows don’t work still.
-we checked fuses and not 1 bad fuse.

What’s going on?
Is it bad gas or is it no spark? Am i trying to find spark the wrong way?

Need help on this guys, it’s really weird. Inside lights turn on while cranking, but don’t work while on ACC.

Thanks!

Check and replace all your burnt fuses, mainly the ALT (75amp) fuse. Hopefully putting the terminals on the wrong way only took out your fuses and didnt toast the ecu.

Alternator fuse.

^^ like they said. Interior fuses may be fine but main large amperage fuses might be the issue. Only other thing I can think of is that some of the grounds may have corroded or disconnected themselves to the chasis. Doubtful I’d say.

I would agree with ALT fuse ,but also check IGN switch fuse at main box under the hood . check all fuses carefully.it is sometimes easy to miss burnt fuse . just hope the ecu is okay.

The IGN fuse was good, but didn’t check the ALT fuse.

What made it very confusing was that the lights inside didn’t work before. After about 4hrs it worked when I cranked the engine after the 10th time or whatever.

Going out to check the ALT fuse. Hopefully its as simple as that!

Keep you guys posted. Next time, I’m not trusting my fingers in the dark when “Feeling” the + or - Sign.

did you check fuses behind the drivers kick panel ?

ALT fuse was busted to hell.

Need to replace this asap, if anyone has this let me know and pm me your #

Greatly appreciate the speedy responses!

Is that the green one? I don’t remember… If no one has it you can go to the dealership and pick one up for 10 bucks or so.

its a big grey 75 watt or w/e one

Go to a junkyard at take it out put it in your pocket; and smile on your way out.

Any one have a picture of this fuse. To tired to read entire thread. I have the main fuse box out of an R32. Also a WACK of random wiring, plugs, relays, fuses etc etc

do your tail lights work? if not your TCU is probably fucked

usually when they get boosted backwards the alt fuse blows right away, i doubt the tcu got damaged

just wondering now, would 2yr old gas be impossible to spark?

because the car has already 1/2 tank with this old gas. thinking that may be the next problem when I replace the fuse.

depends… did u put fuel stabilizer in it when you put it away ?

pretty sure the ALT fuse is a green one, does all sorts of funny things when it goes… i’d fill it up with premium before you try to run it, the RB ran shitty off last years gas, so i could just imagine 2+ yrs.

get ready for some engine damage with the 2yr old fuel, for what I know…fuel stabilizer is good for 1yr max, unless you put it in each year or something, drain out that shit fuel and put new one in before cranking.

best thing to do IMO is to unhook the fuel line at the filter and jump power to the fuel pump. drain the tank out, but make sure you don’t let the pump run dry. then just fill it up with fresh gas and you’ll be good to go.

use the old gas for starting fires or something.

or a lawn mower, haha…don’t think it would it be good for that either tho, but I remember using some old gas for that before from last summer with no problem.
