Here’s the thing for me. I would say I am a religious man but when it comes to matters of law and Order and government, I believe strongly in the separation of church and state.
Here’s the biggest issue I see. The Bill of Rights and our constitution was written by men who believed that those rights came from God the Supreme Being. For whatever reason they did not apply that to Black people.
There came a time when that was changed and then interpretation of the Constitution was changed. However with a lot of people in the country who did not believe in a God or any Supreme Being, nobody ever had a conversation about where we derive rights from.
Why do black lives matter? Why do all lives matter? Why do we have laws protecting certain rights ? who says we have those rights?
As it stands our laws are all over the place, on the one hand they protect certain rights , on the other hand they do not protect other rights. Our laws right now are based on the general feelings or perceptions of the population and what is right and what is wrong. You can be on any side of the conversation but you have to admit that that is a terrible notion because that means that we have to consider that for the thousands of years to come, Society will always think that everybody has equal rights, that say the color of your skin should not make a difference in the rights that you have.
I contend that we don’t have any conversation. It’s either I’m pro-life. Or I’m pro-choice. Even though logically based on our laws the choice to abort a fetus would be murder. Generally it is based on whether the fetus feels pain or not. Now to me that is a stupid way of measuring things. It does not answer the question of at what point does life matter. Is it when the egg is fertilized, is it at 20 weeks, full term, 20 seconds after birth? What is the difference between a 20 week old baby and a 40 week old baby?
Why is it somehow inhumane to kill pedophiles rapists and so on, members of society that that have proven to be a detriment to it, and yet at the same time it’s okay to kill that 40 week old baby that could actually do some good in society? Why do these people that so strongly voice and support full term abortion , abortion (aka “womens rights to their own body”) at the same time do everything in their power to protect the lives of these sick assholes who should be executed?
That is not me just saying “oh you shouldn’t be allowed to do that because my God says so”. That is a question that concerns the foundation of rule of law and why we have any law, and what makes a life precious.
Let’s face it we live in a society where if a gorilla gets shot , and if it had a “fetus” , you would not hear the end of it.
If you really are interested in having a discussion, give this a listen, i found it very interesting back when I heard it. http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/philosopherszone/sam-moyne-1/7288498
