As much as it sucks, there are literally no jobs for these people to be hired at. I am sick of people crying about how they should just accept lower wages. There simply are not jobs to accept lower wages at.
The chances of a worker landing a Full Time job in this country right now is around 1 in 15.
Notice I say Full time too. There are more part time jobs available, but in reality we all know those are worthless because they never offer benefits and you certainly can not afford health insurance on part time wages.
The worse part about this whole mess is that it is going to take the better part of a decade to get back to normal unemployment numbers. Everyone seems to be ignoring that fact. We are still losing jobs on a monthly basis. A recession NEVER ends until jobs start to come back.
when that red line starts going up, then we are starting to crawl out of this massive hole we are in.
if people think the trickle down effect doesn’t exist then please inform me where the money comes from. Last time I looked at my financial statement the unemployment that I have to pay comes from an account that I pay into and I fund. Money doesn’t grow on trees… it comes from someone, somewhere who EARNS it.
do u think you would still feel so strongly if you werent born into a succesful family business? have you ever experienced lack of employment or the possibility of losing everything? im not saying you should have to give more because of your families success however try to sympathize with the rest of the population that wasnt born as lucky as you were.
again, you have alot of strong anti obama feelings but yet you live at home and have yet to attempt to live on your own, hold a steady job, and on top of that support a family. get some life experience first then lets see how you feel. If your dad got layed off and was forced to live off unemployment plus federal relief put into place by obama would you still feel so strongly and hate on your own father?
You dont know a thing about me… and my dad is not going to lay himself off, he owns his own successful company… through hard work and self reliance. The business almost failed in the first few years, i remember the cable company shutting off our TV because we couldnt pay for it and eating nothing but mac and cheese out of the box and canned chef boyardee for dinner. Having kids rip on me at school because I had to wear shit from K mart…fast forward to today, I work seasonal april-september and then i go to school because i dont want to have to worry about getting laid off working some shit job. Im 23 years old, im smart enough to know not to pop out kids that i cannot afford to support. Your argument is invalid… Dont give me your oh live the tough life, walk a mile in their shoes bullshit. Its falling on deaf ears, been there done that. Dont be so presumptuous.
Unions are what “people” made to help out the work force, people don’t want unions now, government is trying to act like a union, people don’t like that.
So the answer is, find an employer you like, do something to make you stand out from the masses that do simply bump a long day to day.
In the end however, it seems no matter how hard the hard workers, work, they get shit on.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if a lot of the social welfare got cut off…of course then city centers would turn into lawless states lol. People get comfortable where they are, if you force them to find work, they will.
I said this in another thread, think about all the shit you could cut back on in order to support your family. One example is cable, HD is free over the air with the right antenna Selection is cut down however.
Agreed with one exception. I think in a majority of work places better than average employees ARE rewarded. Their jobs are more secured than the guy next to them, they get raises, extra benefits etc etc. I bust my ass to go above and beyond because I know times are tough and I know that I’m replaceable. I just want to make it really fuckin painful for them to think about letting me go.
Unions were created in the days of the robber baron tycoons working poor white and immigrant workers to the point of death in coal mines and factories. They were necessary then. Today the amount of union power is unnecessary. One need only to take a ride from the city to Hamburg along route 5 to see what Unions did for this country.
It doesn’t matter if you have an education, there are people I know that have worked in their fields for 25+ years. have had their professional certification for 20+ years, had multiple high degrees be let go because their company cannot afford their services. Living with your parents is not a good position to start with to support or hate on this bill. It has nothing to do with walking a mile in someone else’s shoe, it has a lot to do with not being able to understand the concept of losing your position in a career (not just a job) and the thought of losing everything you own if you can’t find an equivalent position.
It sucks, I went from making $1,425 a week to making $405 a week on unemployment. That is a large change of lifestyle because you do not know when you will find another position.
Read the jungle, come back, that is the reason unions where made. Also the first unions where shoemaker unions.
I dont disagree with unemployment, i disagree with fucks that sit home on their ass for 6 months, because they can. I have friends and family members that do this shit. I am not saying fuck the people who loose their careers of 20 years or more and have a family to support. You interpreted my disapproval of the current administration wrong. Dont even get me started on the pieces of shit on welfare that booze and pop out kids. People abuse the system and the politicians deal with it in the name of votes for their party. This is nothing new. Hand them a stick with a nail on the end of it and go pick up garbage… make them do SOMETHING for their money if they are otherwise able bodied… Hell the biggest socialist in the country’s history (well before Obama at least) FDR put people to WORK in the new deal.
Bottom line is social programs are necessary, but must be monitered and not allow people to abuse it.
And how is what i said different from The Jungle? Its the plight of the working class, corruption, dangerous working conditions blah blah blah. I have read it… The late 19th century and early 20th century might as well been 1000 years ago compared to the world we live in today. Unions then were a good thing, but in the year 2009 when people like my friends dad brag about getting paid stupid amounts of money for reading the paper and fucking off on the job, that is what i dont agree with. Hell my one friend who works for CSX sleeps half the time he is at work. My uncle had a job created for him at Amtrak because they were trying to fire him and he made a big enough stink with the union. This is not right.
We make deliveries to union joints, they don’t lift a freakin finger unless they have to. We can’t get a union guy on break (not lunch) to sign for the delivery even.
Yea, the argument def. isn’t against unemployment. I don’t think anyone would say its a bad thing. I just think it’s improperly executed and enforced.
Great post, nothing against anybody here, but many people, especially in the Buffalo area were born into poverty and had to make something out of absolutely nothing.
Just me personally, born into lower middle class. Parent’s have no family business, no decent jobs, no health insurance for a good portion of my life, no 401k plans, no college education, nothing like that.
A good portion of my friends are like that also. Trying to not do what their parents did, and make something of themselves from scratch. Tons of college student loans, and all.
There are certain Unions that do take advantage of the system, and its a joke. Others actually do work hard for their money, and deserve it. There needs to be a restructuring more than anything else. I know several from the Operators Union, couple from the Laborers Union. All of them worked hard. The laborers Union however does have an interesting reputation in buffalo, but most deserve the pay because your body is shot at 40.
I think the stigma most comes from the UAW but I could be wrong.
Honestly, we’re missing the middle ground, you either are in, and get all the benefits, or on the outside wondering why your getting the shaft.
seriously? you think you had it tough because you had to wear fucking kmart clothes and eat mac and cheese? i grew up my whole life in shithole apartments living off welfare because my father decided to leave when i was young and my mother had no skills. Ive been working full time since i was 15yrs old and i moved out when i was 18. I put myself through college and i worked the bullshit jobs until i found myself earning a decent living in a union job for skilled labor. I had a child because i COULD afford it when i was making 50-60k a year. I got married to the same girl ive been with since i was 15yrs old.
You think you had it bad? your a piss pot that needs to stop listening to daddy bitch about obama taking his moneys. God forbid the economy decides it doesnt need your daddies business anymore and you find yourself out looking for a job.
seriously, your attitude sucks and almost everypost you every make is some sorta smart ass remark as if you know something about something when your realy just leaching off your family like the so called “leachers” do off of obama.
In the same respect as what you said above, it pisses me off when people like you that bitch and cry about people who havent had it so tough. Wah wah cry me a fucking river. I am thankful for what i have, i dont flaunt it, neither do others that i know who were born into better circumstances. You made comments to Dave Basil about how he was born into it, then you preach to me. Who gives a shit that you have had it so tough, great you have overcome the circumstances into which you were born, all that was not your fault. Had you been born a Basil, i doubt you would throw it away and not want to reap the benefits of the conditions of which you were born. Not my fault, not your fault, not anyone’s falult. Stop thinking the world owes you a pat on the back because you had it tough. Some are luckier than others. Such is the way of the world. WHO GIVES A FUCK?
How does any of this pertain to the thread at hand? I have said i am NOT against unemployment OR unions, just those who ABUSE them, I dont need to be poor or rich to form that opinion. I think you would agree with me on that…
The whole time someone is employed a portion of their “total compensation” goes into a fund for unemployment insurance, disability and social security etc… These contributions are made by you and the company you work for and entitle you to be paid out should you become unemployed or disabled. That’s where the money comes from, not other workers paychecks. I “EARNED” (should read paid into) the privilege of taking a whopping 50% pay cut while I enjoyed (sarcastic) unemployment and not knowing when I would ever see a real check again. Some entitlement huh?
