Unemployment benefit extension

Guys don’t mistake me here… I don’t have a problem with unemployment because if I were to get fired then I would need some income for a short period of time to find a new job. When I get pissed off is when I see people taking advantage of the program. I don’t care who you are, there is no reason anyone needs 2 years to find a new job. If you get fired, too bad… you have to start over. If you get laid off, that’s different but if you were good at what you did then there should be no problem getting a new job. When it comes to competition then the best will be picked first and no one should ever do anything different… that’s why it’s called competition. The market will take care of itself and the more it gets messed with, the longer this recession will last.

Network administrator or anything equivalent requires a 4 year degree, besides my tuition is 100% paid for being a disabled Veteran so why not take advantage of going back if I cant find a job.

competition doesn’t come into play when a company is not hiring. and i’m willing to bet most companies are not hiring right now. people will always take advantage of government programs and its BS…but its the price we pay in order to help the majority who are less fortunate.

Exactly. The unemployment system is a great safety net, but 99 weeks is just too long. If you haven’t found something after a year it’s time to expand your search geographically, salary, job type or all of the above.

I’m with the republicans on this one. All this will do is prolong the inevitible at the cost of a lot of tax money. Unfortunately the well paying blue collar jobs just aren’t going to be there. Chalk it up to globalization. Letting people burn through tax money waiting for another $20+/hour union-type labor job that’s already been shipped to mexichinapore doesn’t do anybody any good. Tax small businesses that much less so that a few jobs can stay here.

Sorry to the blue collar guys, but we all have to have more and more specialized skills to find good work. I’ll be in the same boat soon. We’re already outsourcing work to engineers in India and China. Sons of bitches. We’ve got to add value in ways that the Chinese and Indians can’t. Get more education, specialize, learn unique and valuable skills, stop driving 15mpg SUV’s and buying big houses 30 miles from where we work…

At least East Amherst to Praxair is only about half that many miles.

 I’m well aware of the hole I’m digging myself. :roflpicard:

hmmm I have 4 people who work under me with 4 year degrees…

It’s not going to hurt you but I don’t know about the returns you will see from a 4 year…

However you’re getting it for free and won’t have student loans so carry on.

I think the 99 weeks is necessary, as long as it’s a one time thing. There really aren’t any jobs out there, the situation is unprecedented. Job openings to job seekers are 1 to 15 right now, in the most conservative estimate. Even if every available position gets filled, we can’t have the other 14 people just get nothing, get their houses and cars foreclosed on, and start committing more crime. That would really send us back into the downward spiral. $405 a week isn’t much but it’s enough to pay most mortgages and car notes and leave a little to eat without having to steal. Sure there are people who take advantage of the situation, but you can’t punish the majority for the actions of the few.

this.

Finishing my M.A. this spring and am pretty sure that I will not even try to look for a job in this market. Going to try to continue on for the doctorate

Ugh Siemens, such POS equipment.

lol. I never actually dealt with their equipment only software and it was such a bitch to understand. They have their hands into everything… medical, fire suppression, HVAC… ect just to name a few.

mexichinapore… I like that word almost as much as cadavalier.

Unemployment does look for fraud… Wifie was fired back when she was pregnant because she missed work with a lot of Dr. Apts… She received unemployment for a while because her Dr. did not want her to work. Fast forward a little… and she found a one night a week job teaching for a few hours. She did everything right and “lost” money on the deal.
Fast forward again, and unemployment wanted all of their money back. Apparently the Dr.'s letter stated she was not to work until X date and she had started a couple of weeks before that (and after my daughter was born ex. no longer at risk pregnant)

So. Thanks for the interest free loan NY. You will continue to receive my $20/month payments just a little longer
