I’m down.
I mentioned seperating ny city on another forum, and they wet the floor like a scared kitten.
So would Buffalo be the capital of the new state? It’s a pretty interesting idea, but the politicians will say “it would require too much money to actually do it, and too much work…” and it’ll disappear.
If it requires a lot of work or any type of effort New York just doesn’t ever seem to want to do it.
The state’s idea of getting easy money is selling all of us license plates or raising the tax rate and letting everyone else do the hard work. It doesn’t include much planning other than “OK businesses, you now owe us more than usual.”
I always (and still do) think of Upstate NY as the Watertown area. It wasn’t until I went to college in CNY that I realized everyone else thought of Upstate as anything outside NYC and its closest surrounding counties. Upstate downstate talk always annoys me.
Cool idea but won’t ever happen
I wonder what the effect would be if we lopped off NYC/Long Island? Lots less spending for Albany, but lots less income too. I wonder how it would work out…
There’s tons that could be discussed there but one I would be curious about is the power savings that we generate from the falls. So much of that goes to powering NYC.
you realize Albany is a good ways away from the city right? So im sure that Albany would still remain the capital of the “new state”
[crosses fingers]
Ummm why doesn’t NYC city become the 51st state? New York is already a state.
They have been talking aboot this since I was a kid, yeah that long ago.
It’s be a good move…take patterson with ya.
They talked about the wheel and fire too, and both of those ultimately came to fruition. Maybe this will happen too. :gotme:
Doooooo it!
im all for this. most of the problems with this state is because of nyc imo…
do it now.
" it would be a gigantic undertaking to change the state constitution."
It honestly isn’t that hard.
Uhhh
Think of every state run department that would need to change…and not just change but be created and hire staff.
Not saying this isn’t a good thing but its a massive undertaking.
X2
Are you serious? I think Albany would remain our state capital :gotme:
Creating new and separate departments does not equal changing the constitution.
You could simply have both states start with the same (current) constitutions and make necessary amendments from their. State constitutions are a lot easier to change than the US constitution.
