No one here is likely to fall for this crap but you probably know someone who might. It’s a letter that looks like it’s from the DMV, says “Response REQUIRED” and implies that if you don’t extend your warranty you might have problem with the state:
When I worked for GMPP we had to send lawyer letters all the time to companies that used the GM logo in official looking letters about their warranty running out.
Same here I get those as well as stealerships telling me they need my car for inventory. They typically ask for cars I havent even owned in the last 4-6 yrs.
I get these too. I wonder if you could file a complaint, since it’s clearly meant to trick consumers. The other ones that I hate getting are the local dealerships (like Doeschel), that send out marketing materials in the form of a letter that looks hand written, but is just a sneaky font.
Another common trick they do to sound more legitimate is a bold notice on the front stating that “18 U.S. Code 1708: interfering with the delivery of this is punishable by …”. It sounds scary, but it is just the mail law, it has nothing to do with that specific parcel.
