What apps can you put on a non-smartphone on any other network that are worth while? People just like to hack phones for a feeling of self-accomplishment and being able to say “I did it.”
“Look mom, I followed step-by-step directions from some nerd much smarter than I on the internet!”
If you people really cared about having a free-to-do-whatever-you-want phone you would get the G1. It’s the only open source phone software out there. The rest of you just bitch and moan that the Verizon software is too locked down when in reality there’s nothing you are smart enough to do to it anyway.
GSM phones that run a java based system you can put your own games and software on it. I know the old Samsung SCH-U740 I had one Verizon was limited to get it now for apps but the non verizon version had how-tos for all kinds of software and stuff.
For a consumer cell phone, you pretty much just wanna go find something thats easy to text or use depending on what you use it for.
poor craftsmanship, there is no paint left on the case
touch screen hardware sucks, does not sense a lot of the touching, and when it does, it is NOT accurate.
battery BLOWS
phone shuts itself off constantly
earpiece speaker is complete and utter garbage
to send a text message to someone, I have to press more than 10 buttons before I can even START typing the fucking message. What the fuck is that BS? Shouldn’t that functionality be improved over time?
Avid text messagers have been begging for chat-style texting since text messaging was created, when the fuck will it be a standard?
why can’t I have an “Iphone/G1 style” app store for the voyager? I paid the same price for the phone!
why does a voyager cost 3x as much as other phones when it has the same exact functionality as my 2 year old LG ENV?
Why does it STILL use the smaller size earphone plug?
Honestly, I hate that things are so standardized by the company, it rewards laziness and a lack of effort to make things better. They just implement more crappy “features” before they really master any one part of the phone. But hey, who cares. Parents continue to buy the phones for their 11 year old children. 99% of consumers just roll over onto their backs and accept the hardware. I bet all of those assholes are Windows XP users too…
Your only shot might be to get a black berry online or used somewhere and then add it to your plan. They might let you sneak through the crack. If you buy it in store you might be required to change your plan.
gotcha, I can deal with that. I might bite the bullet on the data plan in the future. For now I am just gonna do the best I can without the data. I am eligible for my upgrade tomorrow. I am gonna order it online, but then what if it doesn’t show up until after the 14th? Since the phone wouldn’t be activated, will they give me a hard time about the data plan?
