i was asked to talk to you guys on what you think on swaping a vg30dett into s13. im in the process of doing it and getting some haters on nys. build thread
waste of time…no space to work on it etc.
sr20 or rb25 anyday…
extremely tight engine bay once its all said and done. If you want to know what we think, its a waste of time and money. You woudl get more bang for buck out of a sr20 or a rb series swap.
^^ Not really. I’ve considered the swap with some 300 specialists. We’ve gone over the size in the engine bay and the power consideration.
Because of the fact that the VG has 3 cylinders on each side it sits much nicer on the cross member than the previous inline 6 RB20 I’ve swapped into a 240. Thus making the weight difference minimal.
As for spacious attention, it’d be best to convert to a single big turbo mounted in front of the engine (tons of space). Stock for stock the twin turbo VG has MUCH more power than the SR and RB. The VG30 comes out of the box twin turbo sitting on 300+ hp.
The VG with accessories, turbos, tin, (fully trimmed, everything) is 560lbs. Not exactly light.
Mike, is that including tranny?
The SR with tranny comes in around 450.
Mainly the reason I say the VG swap is better over say…the RB, is because of how it sits on the cross-member.
Yes, that is with trans from what I understand. Sure you have slightly better weight distribution, but it’s a pain in the ass to work on in every way. VH, VQ, SR, all cheaper, easier alternatives. This guy purely wants to do this to be “different”. Those projects typically work out really well… lolz.
Yea that’s true lol. If the inital goal to do it has far more purpose than “to be different” then sure. But otherwise there’s a hassle.
I hate fuckin vg30’s sooo massive…why put a motor that people take out of the original car and replace it with a better motor…
But I wanna be different guy, I want to do something that hasn’t been done before (for a reason). I don’t care that it’s difficult, economically prohibitive, offers poor hp/$, makes the car a pain to work on. I wanna be different!
^x2…
its not really trying to be different. i knew i wanted a 6 cylinder. i almost bought the rb. but one of the big things was getting parts. sure there is a huge aftermarket sence for the rb. but expensive. i had a ca18det in the car and it needed new pistons. i couldnt find oem, and i wasnt going to take a chance on used ones and wasnt going to spend 600 on forged pistons. yes the vg oem parts are expensive as well but i dont have to get every single part from online
puts flame suit on
I would prefer a custom 4 rotor in the bay over the VG.
i’d considered this swap before the rb as well, but the hassle of swapping it in and the tight engine bay conditions turned me off of it. kinda wish i would have done it, buuut, the rb was easier by far.
i second the 26B over the VG. But VG would cost 1/8th of 4 rotor lol
Are you a schizophrenic?
Ricers_R’_us and klutchkick are the same person just different names for different forums. FYI.
If your current KA is in poor health, you might consider swapping it for another cheap KA and go KA-T piecing together parts from the classified section. There’s a ton right now. Also, if you want a baller spool crazy powerband, get a GT2860RS from Kevin@AMS (I think), their recent thread shows some GOOD pricing for us northern folk.
Otherwise, if you really want a reason to go VG30DETT, here:
It’s a great engine, but it’s a large cubical chunk of metal. Ever drop a bolt, and you’ll have to go magnet fishing. Regardless, I think they’re great motors with an iron block and are built like rhino’s.
Fuck VG’s… go work on one, and then tell me why the HELL you’d want to put it in anything. I leave that shit to Kev… and people with waaay more patience than me.
i like VGs… so…:lickmahpussy: :madfawk:
do whats makes u happy
