they will last till 300k with maintenance
i think buildup in the intake plumbing is one thing, um see if glo plugs were replaced recently…
i looked into getting one a lil bit ago, they are great cars with just some routine maintenance
Pretty phenomenal engines, cutting edge deisel AFAIK…and as with all turbo deisels, MUCH torque, they make great drivers…
Lamborghini is even liking the diesel VW

The VW deisels were developed for the European market as they LOVE deisels over there for reasons of economy($5-7gal, last I heard). BMW and MB both sell a ton of deisels and that’s the market that VW is striving for( I know, I know, but those Touregs and Phaetons are the handwriting on the wall), so they decided they had to be strong on the deisel market. Their engines are quite remarkable. Direct injection, variable vane turbos, great stuff.
Okay, this isn’t a VW powerplant, but pretty unique none the less

And for what it’s worth, I watched one of hte VW TDI 1.9 liter deisels on the dyno a while back. He had aftermarket software and bigger injectors and fuel pump and made 140whp. I was underwhelmed and wondered why everyone was acting amazed. “BFD” I was thinking. Then I looked at the tq #. 320ft lbs out of a 1.9 liter 4 banger getting 50mpg. Heh, it’s a different game…
tree huggers yay
there is one for sale locally for under 6k, has 120k on the clock. sonny has the link i believe…
^ it sold… i would of bought it had it not been a jetta.
They play a big part in the deisel scene unfortunately.
California banned deisels because an exhaust particulate once looked at a tree hugger in a funny way. You’d think they would be used to funny looks by now, but probably not in Cali. Maybe they were the sensitive type. And as Cali goes, so goes the rest of the country, at least in terms of emissions and DOT regulation. Of course, this country would cease to run without deisel so the rest of us won’t hafta follow Cali in this case, but they’ve set an ugly precedent.
I think the cali deal is already being rolled back, but c’mon, no deisels? Damned treehuggers.
Cool Thanks Guys!
some things, you just shouldn’t mess with
