Hopefully with minimal drilling and permanent modifications to the interior. I feel, especially in Auto-X, that sometimes I’m almost being thrown out of the car. I like simplicity, so 4-point would be fine. Just something to keep my butt in my seat.
I do not have a harness bar, do I absolutely need one? I probably won’t be using the harness on the road, only for SCCA and track days.
Here’s one that simply clips into the front and rear seatbelt clips…but it’s ugly and priced significantly higher than regular Sparco/Corbeau harnesses. http://www.soloracer.com/harnschrothfaq.html
I’ve got things to hook up to above the rear seats, I think they’re for like…child seats, I’m not sure. I think thats what SoloIIScoob used to run his harness, and it took him less than 5 min in/out for the harness.
I hooked my harness up to the rear seat belt upper mount on the c-pillar. Works great. That’s why I suggest the 3 point instead of the 4 point.
In an STi, you would do just as well with a CG Lock (http://www.cg-lock.com/). The seats will hold you in pretty well, and you can lock the lap belt down.
As far as money and looks - who cares when it could save your life.
I have a gangster 4-point ebay harness from the pair that I bought off ebay… I’ll sell it for $25. The harness works great but rather uncomfortable compared to a $100+ harness. Holds me in tight for auto-x.
Go with a roll bar, for 400 bucks you cant beat the stiffened chassis and the saftey aspect especially if your tracking it.
The whole idea of 80mph+ with a harness bar or even worse, nothing, is scary although I have heard of STi’s taking a few rolls at those speeds and seing minimal roof caveing.
I am looking for a roll bar/harness setup too not that it would ever see as much use as in zongs car.
Yeah, I liked kleeman’s alot. I asked him if he would make me one, I’d obviously pay him for the supplies and labor but he had no time cuz he had to move.
For AutoX, running the harnesses to the rear will be fine. You WILL NOT be allowed out on a track (except for Dunnville, because well, it’s Dunnville ;)) with harnesses without a harness bar and proper routing on a seat built for harnesses. New rules are going into effect for a lot of people who hold DE’s either this year or next (SCCA, PCA, BMWCCA, NASA, etc) which bans harnesses on stock seats in virtually any car.
AutoX harnesses, 4 point is fine.
If you’re planning on doing track duty, get the 5 point (or 6) with a cam lock.
dude zong, i spent $50 and had a good. solid 3 point that i connected to my rear child seat anchor. i would not however run it on the street. i would use the regular seat belt.
just get a cheap 3 point. u want something to hold u in the seat. not slow your car down.
