What software would anyone reccomend for a person who has never made their own website. It would be a very simple website with a few products for sale. Thanks guys
depends what the purpose is…
If its for a personal website. Just read http://www.w3schools.com/ and go from there
If its for a business you might just be better off seeking a professional and paying for it to be made.
webhostingtalk.com has a bunch of webdesigners/ coders dying for work so you can get some really really good deals right now
OScommerce or PayPal store for simple shopping cart functionality.
You can skin OScommerce too and integrate it with your payment processor too.
For the actual software, Notepad++ is a free text editor that is good for websites. For commercial software, Adobe CS4 Web Premium is a great package since it includes Fireworks, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.
It also depends on what you want to do with your site. You want shopping? you want forums? You know HTML, Java or anything else.

This is my site. I knew HTML when I started it and used a LOT of tutorials for Php.
Also, see what your webhosting site has. A lot of times they have free software, tutorials and they can help you out.
Let me know if you need some hosting… I run a hosting business also and can get you some good prices
