One of these things is not like the others…wait…actually strike that remark. One of these things is just like the others…:ninja

whose block?

(is that proper grammar?)

TurboTravis rod

Cossey’s dumpy ride

looks like a 996 turbo rod… i can tell by the casting

you can tell by alot of things going on there.

so what rods are going in it? some Pauters?

Just LS swap this POS and be done with it already

Sweet 1/4 x 1/16" deep gouge full length of piston travel

Awesome. Crack up piston pin boss webbing to lower ringland material. Pin circlip lost to the depths of the case.

As much as this completely sucks, Chris actually lucked out for the most part. If he had attempted to drive the car home vs calling me for a tow he’d likely be looking at a ~20K bill as the piston would likely have let go and catastrophic failure would have be inevitable.

Reality…~600whp bent the rods, all six of them. #3 bent far enough to come in contact with the crank counters and the hardened crank started to machine away the rod. Wrist pin is askew 3.8 degrees off crank centerline and was likely pinching the pin in the small bushing. It took enough hits of the crank to finally jar the pin over and dislodge a circlip. Thereafter it was just a matter of time before the pin made contact with the sleeve.

Let the rebuild commence

He’s had good luck with this car

I’m going to try to convince Chris to use R&R rods with 625 hardware but they’re pricey(~$1850 set). If not I’ll likely use Pauter. It’s entirely up to him and what he wants to spend on it. Piston/sleeve assembly alone will cost ~$1100. I could machine the crank journals and use GT3 spec rods(in either steel or Ti) but I don’t even know if the crank will require anything other than a tape polish at this point. Haven’t split the case yet.

yeah we were quite far away when it started making noise. chris was infront of us and got on it, and it didnt look good. pulling over at the stewarts and waiting was worth it

ARP 625 rod bolts, and L19 studs!

PJB if you clutter my thread with LS crap I will ban you…

At least I now have definitive information in regards to the M96.7’s capability to hold power in stock trim. That 600whp mark seems to be the hairline as the rods are just starting to bend. #1 and #3 are the worst by far, but #4 you have to really stare at just to see the bend(but it definitely is w/o mic’ing)

then keep breaking overpriced VW shit. Eventually you’ll see the light.

im sure the way the torque is generated doesnt help. its dealing with alot of low end grunt

knock it off man.

You’ll have better luck with that kind of talk chatting it up with my sister. GTFO. Plenty of other threads to go shit on with GM talk…

Turbo Travis, 2nd the motion

Wait so everybody can say shit about my car being a POS or just about anybody else’s but not certain elite member’s cars?
I dont get it.

Atleast my motor didnt do this. It just had warped heads and needed rings but I decided to replace it.

oh nos. we todd did strength…
