Haha, one of the threads I had bookmarked was the timing chain tensioner replacement on a VW, though a newer one with the 2.0 TSI.
I can’t stand facebook car groups, but yes that is where most of the traffic seems to be. Every other post is “how many miles do you get per tank, pic for attention” No real meaningful information being traded anymore.
This is definitely old man town now though. I signed up for NYSpeed in high school when I was 15 or 16 and now I’m knocking on the door of 30. I don’t think any young kids have joined here in a long time  Also seems like people just aren’t into modified cars anymore (unless you’re talking pos Hondas on cut springs in my neighborhood)
I’m still into cars, but there really isn’t too much out there that’s exciting. I feel almost like I’ve “seen it all” so to speak. Street racing drama, crazy fast street cars, etc. I still read several auto blogs but not much catches my eye.
The most exciting automotive thing to me is the continuing electrification of vehicles. With big players like GM now on board, in a few years we’re going to have many all electric options.
I want to see low budget electric swaps into 80’s & 90’s Japanese cars
Does everyone feel like an old man now that they are 35? Ya, I didn’t think so. You can’t tell people, they just have to realize it once they get there.
Well to put it in perspective, I was around back before nyspeed was even thought of, the good old ubrf days, bubble tea, burnouts in the parking lots, running the loop, idiots almost getting people killed, people getting pulled over leaving bubbletea, the late night drag racing around town, oh the times.
i’m still way into cars and so are my kids. all they ever talk about is hotwheels and ferrari this and koeniggsegg that.
i came across the old NYSpeed DVD Volume 1 and showed my kids some of the footage from the old days when we were all much cooler. My kids loved it. they kept asking what kind of car each was and who owned it and asking me to replay all the funny bits.
strange thing is… i am not sure that i want my kids to do all the crazy shit we did in our late teens and early 20’s
I still prefer car forums to any of the FB groups. Most FB groups are a total pain to navigate through, and all of the wrong people are in control of the FB groups. It’s always some loser that runs the show.
Sucks you still hang out in those groups
I love cars, I dont think that will ever change. So much so that my niece who is now 7…is angry with me when i sell a car, because i didn’t save it for her. she was a huge fan of the S2000
I just joined wicked jeeps on FB and now that is all I see. Now its like JeepBook.
Did you take my post personally?
I am still into cars just as much as before, it is just different now…time is so much more precious…now most of my car stuff is done solo, at all kinds of odd hours…I spend my time driving around Grand Island’s West/East River loop, night drives to Tea Leaf, and working in the garage whenever time allows…cars are a part of me, and as long as I have a pulse, that will never go away…
I try not to do anything car related that will take up the whole day with a few tiny exceptions. Drag racing is pretty much a whole day event, and there is far too much down time. Car shows can be the same way (if you enter one). I’d rather just spectate at a show for an hour and leave and still have a productive day. Cars and coffee is ideal. Go to the show and be entertained for 2 hours or so, and you leave and still have the entire day to do what you want.
same.
And I don’t have FB.
this site still comes up as dangerous at work which is when i waste most of my time…
Same & Same.
we keep trying different things but cant make it happen.
I agree with everyone about the FB groups. There is good information out there but it is not searchable so once it gets put under pics of people’s kids i don’t give a shit about i will never find anything useful on there again.
Main reason I stopped coming here is the Trump threads. It’s like trying to discuss advanced calculus with a cage full of shit throwing monkeys.
so what you’re saying is that you should become a shit throwing monkey?
