Most of you are still kids to me. LOL
this.
It’ll die a slow painful death if we don’t fix it soon.
Nah, in my old age I’ve realized that that’s a good way to come out in the same exact place where you started, except covered in shit. Also, I got promoted and work from home where it’s always nice out so in the rare cases I’m not working at work, I just go outside
Kinda bummed about the overall state of affairs today that thanks to social media and micro-targeting, we’ve moved from the old process of research an issue -> learn the facts -> formulate an unbiased opinion to a process where everyone either comes in with an opinion or just adopts the one they’re told to by a party and then finds or gets fed “facts” to reinforce their uninformed opinion they had in the first place. People don’t want the truth, they want to be right. Nobody changes their mind based on a reasonable argument any more.
Many thanks!
Same. Except also old European cars
And vintage jetskis
Yep
This can’t be said enough and it’s what makes discussing politics so damn difficult.
However, when I engage in those discussions it’s because I want to understand someones position, not convince them to change it. But having a different opinion from most of those people means that you are a clueless, brainwashed idiot in their eyes and anything you say is biased fake news. The amount of condescension in the the Trump thread is absurd.
After 8 years we get a change and no one wants to play in the sandbox anymore because they didn’t get what they wanted?
Maybe we need a safespace thread where all they’ll hear is what MSNBC and CNN has to say on a topic.
^Case in point. lol
Truth is subjective. It exists on as much of a spectrum as does gender.
Priorities or values impact the truth you see and seek.
Things that are true to you are not necessarily true to me or others. It’s difficult to get past that for many people. Personally i do not expect others to change their values or priorities or their truths to accommodate me. I am comfortable enough in my truths to allow others to believe theirs without it making me uncomfortable. i wouldn’t tell you should change your truth but you should be accepting of the truths of others. That’s probably true. Or maybe it’s just an opinion.
Maybe everyone left because the site is still listed as a deceptive site
¯_(ツ)_/¯
When Obama was elected and this site had political threads just as opinionated as now I don’t remember people bailing on it? :gotme:
Sure, people bitched because OT was filled with political threads. And after quite a long time we eventually moved them all to PolitiSuck. But no one on the ‘right’ side logged off forever because of it.
If you guys don’t remember back then, take a look at PolitiSuck and note all the threads by the most outspoken ‘left’ leaning people here.
Maybe I’m strange but listening to someone else’s point of view, especially if I don’t agree, doesn’t make me emotional. And certainly someone else’s opinion isn’t going to scare me away from any web forum.

Two genders.
Just because Asians all look like 12 year old boys doesn’t mean it’s on a spectrum.
that is the whole point. using a leftist theme (gender spectrum) applied to truth.
What if their truth is verifiably untrue though? People are entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts. Here’s an example of the type of debate tactics I face these days, and that the Commander in Chief has legitimized.
Me:
This car is red.
Other person: No, that car is blue.
Me: How could you possibly think that car is blue? Here’s more proof that it’s clearly red.
Other person: Your post is from NBC. That’s what the mainstream media wants you to think. It’s fake news.
Me: OK then, show me some proof that the car is blue. Also, we’re talking facts here. This isn’t a matter of opinion. A color can’t be biased. What you said is literally untrue.
Them: What about this car? How come nobody’s talking about this car? It’s a great car, really really great. I saw it on Facebook. This is the stuff you people like to ignore. It’s clearly blue. How many other blue cars are out there that you don’t know about?
Me: What are you talking about? What does that have to do with the Corvette we were discussing?
Them: I don’t care what you say. It’s blue. Nothing you or anyone else can say, do, show me, have me experience will ever change my mind. I’ll just yell my original viewpoint louder. Thanks Obama! Red cars are for libtard cucks. BLUE! MAGA!
Me:
Actually, a better analogy would be:
Here’s a car Putin once drove:
Donald Trump also drove a car once:
MSM: ERMGAGERD… RUSSIANS! COLLUSION!
NYSpeed: You guys do realize while Clinton was secretary of state her department had to sign off on selling a bunch of our steel production capacity off to the company that makes the car Putin was driving right? And at the same time that company was dumping millions of dollars “charitably” into the Clinton Foundation? And her husband was being paid millions for speeches in Russia right?
NYSpeed Snowflakes: Why are you always talking about Clinton? Why can’t you stay on topic. I don’t like this site anymore, I’m not going to post because it’s just a Trumpfest.
No offense but comparing 2017 NYSpeed to 2009 NYSpeed to any degree is some faulty logic. Way more active users at the time. I would think politics weren’t as polarized either, but I wouldn’t be the one to know that for sure.
The point is that people have been reducing themselves to personal attacks simply because someone disagrees with them. (Both ends have been doing this) I never let that scare me away in the Trump thread because… well I don’t give a fuck really. I just wanted to keep a discussion going. But I can see why people stop subjecting themselves to an attempt at discussion when it almost always turns into an argument over something other than the original topic.
Nah, it’s not. Page though PolitiSuck and take a look at the threads, topics and those who posted them. It’s still the same handful of people engaging in the majority of political talk on this site back then and today.

Politics was just as polarizing, the only difference is you’re paying more attention to it.
Thinking back to 2009 makes me feel really nostalgic. Before FB was a shit show, car meets were a thing and the only drama this site had was JewFro and Jesse lol.
