anyone ever buy reconditioned wheels? My front two are dented and one of then actually is cracked. I am sure driving with them isn’t smart but def looking for advice on replacing two rims and tires for cheap.
Any chance to repair a rim? I have read online people have success with it and it’s cheap. These are just my aluminum OEM wheels.
My girlfriends pontiac has steel wheels with hubcaps.
She dented the inside of the wheel up pretty good, and it unseated the tire bead.
Mr Tire fixed the wheel for free, and charged her 10 bucks to rebalance the wheel.
I asked the guy how the fixed it, he said that they used a “dogbone” tool that bends it back perfectly. He went on to tell me that aluminum wheels can not be fixed, his insurance will not allow it due to chance of the wheel cracking.
So, I would look around on car-part.com and get some used ones, or ebay like you have there.
Also, I think what they mean by “reconditioned” is that they just media blasted the wheel, and refinished it. I don’t think they would have repaired anything structural on the wheel.
I think potholes and speed bumps I hit going pretty quick but the fact that the front ones are just bent and damaged makes me wonder if I completley overlooked them. I will call them and see what they say. I just wanna get it taken care of. If I missed it and it’s been like that for 6 months even more so to get it fixed.
Any suggestions on what to say or who to talk to?
I don’t know how I managed t crack a wheel tho without busting up my suspension or any other part.
I wrecked a rim going over a pothole behind SEARS and it didn’t mess up any of my suspension, although I was positive it did. What a scary few minutes that was
I’d call whoever you bought the car from and be outraged. It would help if you could get an independent mechanic to say they’ve been that way for a while (6 months)?
Otherwise ebay for stock replacements or nitroinsane?
my dad fixes damaged rims call clinton welding and fabricating at 716-823-0227 he gets about 3 rims a week on average, damaged from bufflalo’s finest pot holes
Yeah, I’m also in the market. I just bent my spare rim. That’s two for me this year already and on the street no less. One on the thruway, and one on Millersport Hwy. 55mph+ with low profile and craters don’t mix.
yes he does non steel. alloy and aluminum rims are all he usually does since they are more expensive to replace, its about 75 for the first crack and the rest depends on how bad it is just call him.
