Where do you guys get your turbos rebuilt?

I have a feeling I’ve overboosted my stock turbo and it’s leaking a bit of oil.

I’m debating between getting a used T25G (SR stock) or just rebuilding my CA one.
Where have you got your turbos rebuilt?
How much did it cost?

the kits are cheap, the rebuild is not that expensive to do, ( depending on the actual damage ), however not too many places can do 100,000 rpm balancing… that’s where you end up paying for it… if you can find a good T25 for $400 then probably best to do that… however keep your old T25, you never know when someone will needs parts or want it for a twin turbo setup and doesn’t mind the rebuiid costs… as an FYI I can get NEW, not rebuilt T25’s and T03’s for $500 just as a comparison when buying used…

Adam H has his turbo’s rebuilt locally, maybe you can e-mail him to get the contact info. A clean SR T25 shouldn’t run you more than $200-$300 at most. DTS was selling one for $250 and Sasha was selling his T28 for $280. I would say your best budget option would be picking up a turbo off an SR.

We have a winner.

Herman (owner), is one of the most knowledgeable turbo people I have ever met.

He rebuilt my Z31 T3 and did a hell of a job. He even threw in a new center section and exhaust wheel.

Here is another place to take a look at that isn’t local toyou but is a couple hours away

Get a stock SR t25. Its much better than stock CA.
You’ll get good hp increases at same psi just because its a slightlybigger/moreefficent turbo.

Definately the turbo seals have gone.
At idle the car smokes like mad, at revs it’s “fine”
Popped off part of the hotpipe and guess what I see… OIL!!

i deal directly with J&R they do full turbo rebuilds and custom machine work when needed number is 905.866.6721

My friend is getting the turbo on his FC ported and rebuilt at cherry turbos, he says the place was very highly reccomended on the RX-7 boards.

Average is $500+tax.

I had the same problem with my old CA18DET…that frickin’ engine/turbo and it’s oil leaks!! Get the T25 from someone upgrading their SR, you’ll get a nice high-end gain as well as mikeness mentioned, and will be more efficient.

I called 7 shops today… 3 of which will not deal with/re-build a Ball Bearing Unit.

3 that would gave prices of $700-$1200 on a complete Rebuild for a T28

$300-$600 alone just for a complete re-build kit then you have labour on top.

Herman @ Cherry Turbo’s is away until next Monday… Gentlemen I spoke with guessed $700-$1000 depending on damage.

geeze I can get NEW t25 & T03’s for $500… So overpriced in the city. T28BB cores for a bit more maybe… but that’s the problem with BB cores, when the normal brass wet bering breaks in it’s really only ~ 8% slower in spool times. but it’s rebuildable so that’s the beauty of it. GT cores around the world are back ordered for at least a year… I think garrett alone was somehting like 25,000 GT cores behind in it’s orders… KKK is close and IHI/mitsu are not too far off that. Holstet isin’t even booking new orders till next year…

Unless you have a real nice turbo like a GT2871R or something like it there is no reason to do a full rebuild on a T28. $1000 will get you a brand new BB T28 with a 20psi wastegate actuator.

Exactly… was curious as to how much it would cost as I would then work out a deal with Sasha for his T28…
