Hey guys i was wondering if you can help me i wanna either get an RX7 turbo or a Skyline and i was wondering which u would think is harder to maintain…like i know a rotory engine is not as common but neither is a skyline…so i hope u guys can help me out thanks
if ur gonna leave it stock the rx7 has to be newer gen. but ether way i would go with the skyline but u have to go backwards thru at tim hortons
Skyline is easier. RX7 is just too much money to maintain. But if you mod them they are both the same.
skylines can be just as expensive to maintain as a rx7.
Coilpacks, Maf’s, injectors, headgasket, seals. Are all in the 15-20 year old era now. Plastic connectors in alot of cases are brittle and easy to crack/break.
If you’re looking at a skyline, besure to check out GTRcanada and our FAQ’s on what to look for. The last thing you want is to drop $6000-12000 on a car and have it not run correctly.
but before you do any of that, call up your insurance company and see what the monthly price difference will be…if you can find somebody to cover a skyline/any rhd car.
Partswise, even if you have to have things shipped in, they’re usually only 1-2 days away, however most things can be found locally now.
FD parts would be way easier to find due to the fact we have fd’s here but in LHD, however skyline parts arn’t a huge deal either though, you will probably just have to pay more for them if you want them right away. In the end it just sounds like you want a jdm tyte car so ya buy both and be twice as cool.
The most important thing for those two cars is to get a a good example of one that is not beat; otherwise any of those cars will be a money pit;
I have had both cars and both just required general maintenance… parts are readily available for both.
Don’t be afraid of the rotary engines; they are extremely fun to drive.
^I concur.
If you want more info on rotaries.
I suggest contacting BSC he’s a rotary specialist.
buy a chaser
the FD RX7 is much better looking than the skyline. if it were me i would go with the FD and when the rotory blows up(and it will) slap in a V8 :).
peace
Well i really want the Skyline but i was coserned that a head gasket or spark plugs for example would be next to impossible to find, expensive and it would take awhile to get it…the only reason why i would grab the “FC” rx7 is because they’re availible in Canada already and parts are already availible…but for those of you who know and/or have a R32 can u plz let me know that 100% if the parts are easy to find and availible here in Ontario…Thanks guys i appreciate your help
^^^^^^
Buy a clean FC with a blown engine, install V8. Profit.
FD’s are available they are the 1993 - 1995 models that are available in N America
I dont like FD lol…they just dont look very appealing to me for some reason…but the one in tokyo drift is SEXY! Ofcourse the veilside bodykit makes it look like a complete different car though…but still…but honestly are Skyline parts hard to find or could i get them at any canadian tire or other auto parts store??
comon man ur gonna buy a skyline and put shit from ct on it???
I mean stuff like spark plugs, gaskets are there parts availible for a skyline in canada!!???
Im not a ricer lol…my taste isnt bad…“JDM”
