The “blur” you’re after is referred to as bokeh in the photography world. It depends on your f stop you’re using and depth of field. This is relatively independent of the lens (as all lenses can provide bokeh) and completely independent of the camera body.
The Nifty Fifty you speak of is the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II. It is a wonderfully fantastic lens! I own one and love it. It is infact the only piece of gear I bought brand new (because its $100 new anyhow). It is amazingly sharp (for its price) and provides nice bokeh, though its more harsh than the 50mm f/1.4, but that is around $350.
This is probably what you’re looking for bokeh wise I’m assuming. I shot this with the “nifty fifty”.
So if nifty-fifty is Canon’s lens. What would be the Nikon version of it?
I read a WHOLE lot on the Canon, and it doesn’t do well in low light, which is partly where a lot of pictures to be taken are. The Nikon has a higher ISO rating as well AND the LCD actually flips down, which is a benefit to me, as I am not the tallest, and I can take high up shots, without having to climb up.
Why are you insisting on using bestbuy’s prices? Unless you work there or get a huge discount, you most likely get the same camera for cheaper somewhere else.
