so today i discovered that i have gotten posion oak in the past few days of my new landscaping job. it really sucks and its all over my arms. what should i do? iv never gotten it before and i just want to scratch at it but im going crazy trying not to. somebody help me and tell me what to do!!!

I got on my leg before, made my calf look like a chunk of salami. It turned out to be bad, leg swelled up and the antibiotic the docs gave didn’t work. They ended up putting me on a steroid to get rid of it.
Keep it clean, you can try some Calimine(sp?) lotion, you may have to visit the docs if it doesn’t get better. If it scratches, don’t scratch, the docs said if I need to touch, gently rub it.
I got poisin ivy last summer. Was able to wash my arms off quickly and avoided severe badness, but it was still irritatting and damn annoying.
Yeah, i had it really bad to the point where i would wake myself from my body scratching my legs into bloody stumps. Def put the Calimine lotion on and hopefully the doctors will give you steroids to help kick it out.
At wegmans, there are these foaming bath packets made for poison oak/ivy Mostly Its oatmeal, no joke, you make a giant bathtub full of weak oatmeal and anti-itch chemicals. I remember they helped a lot when I got it as a kid.
Calamine or cortizone (sp?) will help with the itching, but nothing feels as good as scratching.
if its really bad, go to the doctor ad get a shot. it helps a lot with the itchig. whatever you do DO OT itch ad the take a piss. bad thigs happe. i used to get poiso ivy every summer.

I used to work on a golf course and got poison Ivy a few times, and by accident i found out a really odd but good fix for getting rid of it faster.

Belive it or not WD-40 works AWESOME on it.(yes i am totally serious). I spilled some on the poison ivy rash on accident and it was gone in two days. So I used it two more times after i got Poison Ivy and it worked again. All i did was spray it on and leave it for a bit and then wipe it off.
hmmm sounds plausible, getting poison oak/ivy is a reaction your skin has to the oils of the plant. WD-40 might be strong enough to strip the oils off of your skin?
I have no idea why, but it did work and when i tell people they think I am nuts.

the oatmeal thing works great, i’ve had poison oak many times when i was younger…that shit doesn’t even bother me anymore if i get it heh

a few years ago, my old lady and I with some friends went down to the mouth of 18mile creek to do some drinking. On the walk back I was so drunk that my friends had to “help” me walk the path. I ended up slipping and falling into a patch of the stuff. Had it all over my legs, my face, neck, arms, hands, ect… it blew lol

if the sap/oil is washed off, poison oak/ivy is not contagious

Also, if you can cleanse yourself immediately afterwards, the reaction and effects will be very minor in comparison.
