Just dropped $15K+ into a garage and ~$25K into buying and modding the S14 in the past year.
Now I have a rolling chassis, 2 engines in pieces, and am probably moving to accept a job pretty soon.
It’s fun to have your cake and eat it too…but damnit get the timing right, lol
The 240 is coming along REALLL slow, coz I have a 2010 WRX from work and in a couple of weeks it will be the 2011 WRX. With 265 ponies on the go, and a 0-60 of 4.7 secs. Everything else gets a lil blurry.
But right now, the 240 has reinforced frame rails, I have R32 brake setup and 5- lug conversion sitting in my living room, HSD coil’s are on order. Wheels shall be next. Its slow…but coming !!
I’m coming to the end of a project… finally. After 4 years or so of blowing a lot of shit up. It will feel good to not be dumping cash into cars for once.
Looking to move somewhere, and buy a house and get movin on that road in life.
I think you’re getting a little carried away here. You can’t tell me that for as long as you’ve had a drivers license and disposable income that you’ve had a full blown car project going on. As said before…cars come and go, sometimes you’ve got to focus on life to keep on track. Cars are hobbies to most of us here…taking care of careers, homes, family, etc often takes precedent…weird thought, I know. Just because someone’s chillin’ for the moment doesn’t mean they’re any less of an enthusiast. Shit, if I wanted to rack up credit cards I could turn my Mustang into something big and be noticed…but for now I’ve shifted my priorities and will drive the car as is, and build it when the time is right.
I understand what you are saying and I am not saying everyone needs to have some 30k build going on. I just hate when “car” guys that do not have something going on or even have a fast car for that matter try to use some BS excuses as to why they don’t. Things like I just don’t have the time or the money are valid excuses. But saying im not building a car because I am Mr.Important Pants blah blah blah is just lame.
To more directly answer your question to me I am I have had a project or race car of some type all but the first year(no $$$) I had my drivers license. Had one as I was buying a house and had one as I got an education even had one while in Iraq. Will continue to have them as I buy nicer houses and make babies as well. Im not hating on people who aren’t obsessed like I am if anything I envy their freedom. My statement is simply against the fallback statement of my life is too important for cars stuff.
well, my 240 after two years is done, minus odds an ends and i would really like to put money towards future investments. House, possible more school, or simply i like seeing bank statements with something more then what i could spend in a week at vegas
But i start the corvette project come fall, so im really never done lol
I just decided that after being broke for years and barely scraping by it was time to get from the red into the black. Climb out of the pit of debt that I amassed over the years and actually get some $$ in my pocket before I spend $$ on putting my car back together. I’d love to do it, but right now paying off bad debt and getting my life straightened out take a LOT bigger priority than having a toy to play with.
Bought not built FTW. I prefer to enjoy something from the day of purchase til the day of sale. Also working on cars is just not that interesting to me. I like driving them.
I think that a lot of people can be, and are, still into the car scene without having full on race builds. As Joe said, some people aren’t into building and racing, they just buy a performance oriented and/or enthusiast vehicle to drive and enjoy owning.

BTW - i started gathering parts for the project I told you about a couple weeks ago at pats shop, now I just need to kick the three motorcycles out of my work area and get the e30 here.
Just after starting my Kouki KA-T build thread on SON I started ripping into the kitchen. And I mean ripping! Walls are gone, new walls are up in different places, cupboards are being custom built, electrical is getting a complete overhaul (including new fuse panel) and the sub-floor will be going in after I press the Post Quick Reply button. I am doing everything myself except the cabinet building and taping. I hate taping and it doesn’t cost that much, kinda like exhaust work on a DD… not worth my time.
I am getting married in August and the kitchen will be done before then. The Fiancee has an apartment so I can eat there for now so it’s convenient to be doing this before the merger.
The DD project is also a concern of late as it needs the odd repair here and there. The old owner just waited until things broke before he fixed them so there’s a bunch to do.
The Kouki is sitting with the engine removed and disassembled and ready for measurement and parts purchasing, which will happen when the kitchen is done. I am still picking up the odd part here and there. just picked up a Fidanza for her and looking for a new clutch.
My peak is down right now, but still above the average I would say.
Wrenching on the house myself still gives me satisfaction of building. I will always be building something… weather it be IN the garage, beside the garage, or the garage itself!
