I like the front end swap section of that site
I wonder how expensive a gsxr front end would be.
I do hate the carbs, and at somepoint, the float mount looks to have been cracked or broken and welded back to the body.
It would be nice if I could find a drop in set for cheap.
Any pics of these nearly copmplete bikes possibly for sale.
Unless it’s a steal, I would probably not buy, but you never know who might see this thread. and I’m always looking for ideas.

PM me about front end swaps. I have I think 8 or 9 front ends I’ve collected to do inverted front end swaps. Almost all of them are pair of forks with pair of calipers and pair of rotors. triple tree offset for the sportbikes are way off so I don’t usually buy those in most cases and have slabs of aluminum plate to custom make triple trees.
Eh. My CB550 rides just fine with the low offset triples. How are you making your triples? Any pictures?
I drew in autocad and sent them out for waterjet cutting. I recently bought a milling machine that I still need to set up and plan to start making them on that instead. I made them from 1.5" aluminum plate like you did on your shovelhead.
What’d you do about the kerf of the waterjet? Has to be .020 through 1.5"… Any pics?
Good god, don’t get him started on the triple offset. Nick will make another research paper like last time lol.
I explained the purpose of them to the waterjet guy that PlasticLover reffered me to and he said he’d compensate for it. I haven’t gotten them yet to mock up and see how they work out.
I hope you undesized them, because you’re almost certainly going to have to machine the bores on them.
My shovelhead blanks I asked for them to minimize the taper for aesthetics because I cant machine the outside easily, and the taper across the depth was like 20 thou.
that’s what I figured. before I bought the milling machine I bought a milling attachment for my atlas lathe and boring bar set so I could bore them to tolerance on there as I know the cut from the waterjet won’t be smooth. I gave him the file with dimensions and he said he could undersize them based on his machine’s tolerances and leave me room to bore to perfect size. for the cost though, If I can make them start to finish on the mill it will save a bunch of money…pay for itself in like 6 sets of triples. I got DRO on all three axis so it leaves me less opportunity to royally fuck up. Jake Coia said he’d come by when I get it set up and show me some basics.
DRO is definitely nice to have. Is the Z on the knee or quill?
Did you leave the compression slice off the trees? I didn’t and it trashed my tooling pretty quick and the interrupted cut sorta sucked. In the future, I’d cut the slice to .1 off the bore and then put it in after.
yeah I left the slice off for now.
this is the mill I bought to play around with, got in on a group buy through hobbymachinist.com
edit: looks like the P45M is already superseded. YAY. lol.
I’ll post pics when I get it uncrated and set up.
Cool, should be good for small jobs, I wonder how the ways will hold up. Get a rotary table. It says quill DRO is standard, but is there DRO on the knee as well because you got the 3 axis DRO? Quill DRO is stupid to me, because if you want to take a light pass it’s hard to finely adjust the quill. It’s nice for drilling to depth though.
yeah I grabbed a 4" rotary table off CL a while back in prep for this purchase. I ordered this thing back in january and did some add-on’s and honestly don’t remember what I have on it. I’ll look through my order receipt and see what it says. I figured this will be a good machine to get my feet wet on and with a 3yr warranty I figure there’s a good chance I’ll sell to upgrade before that warranty is up.

not sure what you are thinking but putting the clamp on the inside is pretty baller. He does the 3 bores then gets the profile and slits water jetted afterwards.

That’s how my shovel is.
yeah I drew them for the clamps on the inside as well.
This thread needed some legit vintage-not 90’s “vintage.” Got the little fugger to say Norton and Triumph. Took him for a ride on the Triumph around the back yard-he LOVED it! He thinks the bikes are his already. I told him not till I’m in the ground.
^
Now THAT’s parenting.
He watches me fire up the Triumph, asks tons of questions, wants to help me turn on the fuel valve, helps me tickle the carbs, and watches me kick it over. I was inside washing my hands in the kitchen sink, look out the windows, the little bugger was trying to push down on the kick start with his arm to start it. I got misty eyed.
