why is my FiOS running 1 URL slow as balls?

I have FiOS set up at my warehouse and eBay is one of the top used sites. Every other site i use is as quick at loading as expected for FiOS, but for some reason, it’s slow when i open up any “My eBay” pages.

Slow to load
Slow to Close out
Slow to scroll down the page
HOWEVER, regular eBay viewing (not in “My eBay”) is normal.

everything… it’s really annoying. Is there a setting that i need to look at?

help is greatly appreciated.

Which web browser are you using?

Sounds like a plugin problem.

I have no idea.

Try loading the page in firefox and also in internet explorer, like steve said. That should help some nerds give you a more conclusive answer and resolution.

clear the cache?

was gonna ask if it’s opera you’re using…

using both firefox and IE. I have 6 computers there, and they are all doing almost the same exact thing.

keep in mind eBay is not only a high traffic site, but it’s heavy in coding too. Try running Ccleaner and clearing out the temporary files and cookies and such. It also has a function to keep any cookies that you want. This is useful for sites you like to stay logged into.

I think I have found the solution to your problem. By the time you read this though, I’ll probably have fixed it for you and you will have all 6 computers running internet.

http://agaricdesign.com/note/how-setup-linksys-router-verizon-fios

New FiOS installations now connect you using the MoCA system from the ONT, not ethernet, thus preventing you from directly connecting a router of your choice to the ONT (some of you may say that the ethernet jack at the ONT is still there and you could run an ethernet cable to it, but it will NOT work because the ONT was not configured for ethernet connectivity during initial install by verizon)

As part of the new FiOS installations, you are given an ActionTec MI424-WR router

The MI424-WR is a pretty decent router (is powerful, has lots of features, and is quite flexible), however the major issue with it at the moment is the puny NAT table (only 1kb in size). The NAT table is easily overflowed just by running a single bittorrent or in some cases, playing games. When the NAT table is overflowed, you will get the “No IP for NAT - connections may fail” error logged in your MI424-WR’s security log. During this time, you will unable to browse, ping, or connect to anything until you wait about 3 minutes. This problem seems to be widespread with this router, regardless of which firmware release is used. No one has been able to produce a workaround for this issue and neither Actiontec or Verizon has acknowledged this issue officially. This problem makes your FiOS connection next to useless. While your overall throughput may drop when using a store bought consumer grade router, your actual usability may increase. I personally would take this trade off over NAT errors any day

“Know the hitch, before you switch”:spank:

i plan to bridge the built-in router in the verizons actiontc router to the linksys in the office and hopefully both routers will work. We might have to run a line back to the actiontec from the linksys.

regardless, verizons router/modem suck balls and is slow.

the major problem i think ill be having though is when i bypass and bridge the actiontec router, will that close out the ethernet ports and only make the linksys ports available. i know it disables the wifi of the actiontec, but no mention of the wired ports.

This pertains to NAT problems which has nothing to do with the problem he is experiencing, OR pertains to using his own router, which I don’t think he is doing.

dumb.

I actually have found the FIOS router to be really stable so far and I and pretty much always downloading bluray rips at all times so it is getting a workout regularly. The only downside i’ve experienced so far is that it is not gigabit, but can always throw a gigabit switch in after it.

with that said, Josh if it is really a problem I could check it out for you if you want to setup a time over the weekend. During the week is pretty tough usually. Also I have to ask, are the computers pretty new? If they are relatively old boxes, as previously mentioned ebay is actually a pretty intensive website (lots of scripts, flash, banner ads), so if they are older computers it may actually just be the computers chugging.

well im not concerned with making the fios run faster as of right now, i just want to get the computers up and running.
im working on it right now, but if i have any questions maybe ill shoot you a pm.

we are actually trying to hook up another linksys wireless router to run in parallel, but i dont actually know if it will work.

 at this thread

lol, why do you want another router to run in parallel? I mean i could understand if you’re trying to put in a higher end router for more capabilities and/or a better firewall, but adding a linksys router in is probably a downgrade. Just saying…

i understand, but what you originally posted about the difference in the initial delivery to the router pertains to completely circumventing (removing) the verizon router, not adding another one after the verizon router.

Maybe you could try making sure all the PCs are updated properly?

Are all 6 PCs identical?

we are trying to run 6 computers, right now only 4 can run off the actiontec. i would like to add another router in parallel to get more computers on the network.

im not trying to replace the verizon router, but it says i have to disable it in order to run the linksys, but i would rather keep them both.

So you will be double natting…buy a switch…or you are trying to get the linksys router to act like a switch in which case you disable DHCP(on linksys) and plug a LAN port from Actiontec into a LAN port on the Linksys.

What Verizon suggests doing it putting the actiontec in bridge mode…Where it just acts like a pass thru/media converter…

Fiber -> Actiontec -> Linksys(Handles WAN IP/NAT) -> PCs
