im not sure how old the motor is now, but when the guy i bought it from said the front clip read 60k. I want to take it to someone but we don’t have many sr “experts” in winnipeg, theres pretty much only one guy and hes pretty busy all the time so its hard to get a hold of him. But as soon as i get a hold of him ill see if he can take it for a test and see what is wrong.
you pay for my plane ticket and i’ll come help you out!!
Any shop could help you figure out if it’s the clutch. many years ago when the clutch went on my first car I took it to a random shop and they took it around the block with me and knew exactly what it was. they have seen it a thousand times before and ussually a toasted clutch is a toasted clutch, doesn’t matter what engine it’s connected to, or what side the steering wheel is on, so I would just ask a local shop to take it for a spin around the block with you and let you know what they think.
drive the car in 4th gear about 70 to 80 km, than downshift into 2nd and dump the clutch. do not give it any gas. if it does not instantly rev to the moon than it is the clutch.
im having the EXACT same problem with my car
although im not driving a sr20 240 its an rx7
and when i press the gas the rpm’s go up…it sounds like its
accelerating…but its not…becuase when your in a low gear
your clutch and flywheel is under lots of tension i guess you could say lol
and thers no friction becuz the clutch is so worn that is slips then once
you let go of the gas and start giving it a bit…it wont slip…unless its totally
pooched but if it was your car woudlnt move…so try driving it around at
lowest rpm’s you can…and see if it still does it…i dunno maybe it will still do it
and could still be the clutch im no expert…but my car has that problem
and if i let go of the gas at drive at low rpm’s…it dosent slip till i step on it
to test if your clutch is pootched, pull the e-brake, put it in 1st and slowly let the clutch out without touching the gas… if the car doesnt want to lurch foward at all… its done
witch friend was that … -_-
Let’s say you’re in 3rd gear doin about 70 and you nail it. The revs come up. When that happens and you back off, do your revs drop back down a couple grand or so? If your clutch is slipping, your engine will rev past the clutches ability to hold and once you let off, your clutch will want to grip and bring those revs down again to where it is equal to the trany speed. Good luck, and if that’s not the problem, check out your cat. If it’s melted, you have a major restriction there and something will need to be done. There’s alot of things that could cause this problem but try one thing at a time and don’t be so quick to move on to the next thing. Good luck!
