I was on my way to work today and was driving as normal. Went to shift into 5th gear and I could get my shifter where the gear should be, but it’s not actually in the gear. If I’m driving and I try to hold it there gently, it grinds the gears; if I hold it into the 5th gear very firmly, it will accept it, but as soon as I stop holding the shifter it will pop back out and grind. Any ideas as to what this could be, and possible solutions?
5th gear synchro might be shot, not keeping it in gear, linkage/forks are fucked, may be the reason it isn’t engaging…
Grab another tranny… They’re cheap enough…
So you do think that this would be an internal problem rather than just something with the shifter itself/shift linkage?
defiantly sounds like a internal problem i would count my bets on a bent shift fork, possibly a worn synchronizer hub/sleeve, but probably the fork. if you have the skill i have a tranny i dont need anymore, it would only be good for parts.
If you can get it into evry other gear fine that its probibly internal, new tranny. If evry gear is hard to get into it could just be fork, ect.
