Windows 10 Thread: Phones, Surface & PC (Formerly Nokia Phones)

As much as I am uninspired by Windows Phones, those are some great pics. The focusing is pretty nice.

Is the app availability as bad as everyone says? The only apps I really use are Pandora, google music, mint, gmail and a few others. I really like way everything is laid out and how the interface looks (I had a zune before and really liked the interface setup on that). I don’t know if you have any experience with this but i wanted to be able to get an emulator on my phone to play some old school games, any idea if something like that has been developed for that phone?

I have bluetooth for my car and home audio systems, so I assume this unit won’t have any issue syncing up with those. How accurate it is for typing? I’m currently dealing with an original evo and the typing is so bad it makes me want to go all office-space on my phone with a bat.

Nah, I’d say all of the essentials are there. I have Pandora but don’t actually use it because of Nokia music. You can search the app store for specifics, just be aware that there are often 3rd party apps that work BETTER than the apps you might normally get direct from the company: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store

I’m using Snes8x for Super Nintendo emulation so I’m sure there are a few others out there. Someone made a full Sonic CD rip and it was free when I downloaded it.

No problems here. I’ve connected my phone and used it with 3 different vehicles, the only problem is that the voice texting doesn’t work on my truck because my truck is older. No big deal.

It learns how you type and the mistakes you typically make and corrects for them. It’s so good that my accuracy has gotten WORSE typing on this keyboard (although my typing is also much faster) than using other phones and I STILL end up somehow getting the work that I wanted, lol.

^That sounds like it’s got everything I want. Not I just have to decide if I want to wait til this summer to see if Sprint gets the Lumia or switch to AT&T.

I have an AT&T Lumia 920 that I’m only using as a camera platform at the moment. Let me know if you’re going to AT&T and if I’m not using it I’ll probably let it go for cheap.

My phone knowledge is pretty limited hence why I have to ask this question; what are the benefits if I were to buy the phone outright from you then get service through AT&T, without doing the whole, get a new phone for a cheap and sign a two year contract thing?

Only benefit is that I’d probably give it to you slightly cheaper than them, but now that I look it seems there is no way I could beat their price… They’re selling refurb ones for 99 cents! http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/nokia/lumia-920-matte-black-refurb.html#fbid=RHK66It9iU_

Oh, and I finally bought a wireless charger and it works great. Once you get used to not plugging in a phone to charge it, plugging it in seems like a HUGE hassle, lol.

Yeah a new 920 with a two year contract is only 100 bucks anyway, so I’d probably rather get a brand new one anyway. The wireless charging looks pretty sick, I actually used to have a powermat for my Evo that let me do the same thing. Unfortunately the powermat adapter piece breaks way too easily.

Yeah I didn’t realize how cheap these phones are now. Glad I sold my other Dev phone when I did!

Bump for today! For those that care, 11am is the announcement for the 41 megapixel Nokia 1020 in NYC. And since the question was already asked when Nokia put this sensor in the 808:

I’m sure there will be plenty of samples posted later today.

GF picked up a 928, absolutely loves it…

The Windows phones are really growing on me.

Upgrading my phone in September its really going to come down to who has the best battery life.

I messed around with the HTC windows phone. The tapered edges was strange and couldn’t get into the Windows phone.

I think their limited app market is the only thing holding them back. If they could match the development of Android/iOS then they’d be a strong contender. The hardware and UI is pretty slick on most of these phones.

that crap <<<<<<<<<<< nokia. give it a shot.

She hasnt been able to get an amazon app, but the browser is phenomenal so it doesnt matter. Same thing with some of her shopping apps. I dont think this is as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Her battery life blows my stupid droid out of the water, and the responsiveness is amazing. plus, her camera runs circles around mine, which doesnt seem like an important thing until you want to take cute pics of your dog in your dimly lit living room…

I reviewed the actual apps I use out of the 40+ I have installed

Concur, RSA, GoogleAuth, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Maps, TripIt

I think the windows phone has all those covered.

The levels of zoom / detail with this phone are mind blowing. I’m waiting for them to release the full MP version of the literal “needle in a haystack” that they just showed, as well as some of those NYC shots.

Quick vid. Ever wanted to count the sweat drops on a basketball players head? Well now you can:

And if there isn’t an official app, there is another developer out there who’s made a better functioning app anyway. For example, Metrotube is WAY better than any YouTube app.

Yeah my coworker has an HTC Trophy (is that the name?) For a while he was using a third party foursquare checkin app since WP didn’t have it.

I use a majority of the google apps GoogleAuth would be a necessity. I use Falcon Pro as my twitter client because it works a lot better than the native one, but thats android only. I suppose I would be fine on a Windows Phone platform but I root and rom, and use custom launchers and icon sets and all that jazz. I’m big into customization.

Twitter’s native app works great, in addition to the built in Twitter integration.

Foursquare has an official app and has been out for a while, although I don’t use it: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/foursquare/26cf3302-469f-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8?signin=true

Wow that’s really amazing.

when is the nokia 1020 available? my contract ends either august or september. If the camera is really that good i think i would pick it up just for that  having a good browser is a + too.

i really only use tapatalk, social media apps the camera and then browser for occasional searching. my browser on my android phone is a POS and crashes/force closes/freezes every 2 seconds it’s annoying AF.

sounds like a great phone

edit: just saw july 26th. works out perfect for me
