Kidding, kidding Dave.

Hahaha!
And if all goes as planned so far, I’ll be debuting my new wheels that day!
Jim, shocks are in, should hopefully have enough energy left to install them friday, then align the thing saturday…WE SHOULD BE FULLY RACE READY SUNDAY!!! about fucking time.
FOOD will be there…
Andy, I was at the shop all night trying to get Paul squared away. Where were you??? We could have had that shit done!

andy race ready? no way!
Woohoo, got my car back! Ready to get back into AS and kick some butt*
*and by kick some butt, I mean have my ass handed to me.
So I’m pre-registering right now, trying to figure out my class index now so it’s one less thing to worry about while I’m finding my way around on Sunday.
Obviously I selected “novice” for my preferred class.
A VW Jetta VR6is listed as GS, but I have modified my intake so I’d be under “Street Touring - S” rather than stock. Is there anywhere that I need to select “street touring?”
Do I have to specify a preferred car #?
Thanks guys. I’ll probably pop a couple more n00b questions in here shortly. Or maybe just walk down to Potocki’s office…
Um…pre-reg closes thursday night.
Really? Shit I thought it was Friday night. Well I guess I’m registering at the table…
I’ve still got the option of registering for Sunday. Maybe it’ll spit an error at me after I hit submit… So does it matter what car # I pick? I don’t want to go stepping on anybody’s toes and taking their number…
I think if you try to pick a car number that is taken it will give you an error. Good to see you’re going to make it out there.
Sure enough, it told me someone already had #13, so car #9 it is!
So lets see…
I’m going home tomorrow so I’ll check and see if any of my old motorcycle helmets are current enough to be legal. If not there are helmets there to rent/borrow correct?
I’ll bring sunscreen. I won’t bring food. I’ll bring cash. I’ll get there at 8:30.
Sometime between now and then I’ll read the novice handbook on tirerack. Again. Oh yeah, I’ll pump up my tires to whatever the handbook recommended. (I think 45 front and 35 rear, I’ll double check.)
Should I go grab a couple of big magnetic numbers for my car? Craft store?
Any other logistics I should keep in mind?

Thanks! I’m pretty excited to drive my car as hard as I dare without having to worry about cops, kids, balls, dogs, other cars…
Make sure your helmet is snell rated… 2005, 2000 or I THINK 95 is still accepted? Someone correct me if I’m wrong. And it HAS to have the snell sticker inside. Bought a $100 helmet only to find out it didn’t have a sticker and couldn’t be teched. Have a replacement in the mail. But yes, they will have loaner helmets available.
Bring lots of water, a folding chair if you have one, and chapstik with sunscreen because your lips can get burned.
You don’t have to get numbers… you can use blue painters tape, or they should have paper numbers you can tape on.
There are loaner helmets and they are free to use. Think of a bowling shoe, and think of putting it on your head.
You’ll want to bring a little portable air compressor to adjust your tire pressures. If you don’t have one you can usually find one to borrow at the event. A piece of white chalk or white shoe polish is also helpful because you can mark your sidewalls and see how far the tire is rolling over to help decide if you add or take away pressure.
Michaels sells magnetic sheet that you can cut out numbers from, but it was pretty thin and I had some trouble with the class letters flying off (they were smaller than the numbers). Someone bought some pretty thick magnetic sheet last year but I forgot where they got it. Home Depot maybe? You can always just print your number and class out in Photoshop and tape it to your car or inside rear window. Number + class must be on both sides of the car, and big enough to be read at speed from a distance. Normally there is a box of paper numbers at registration but it’s easier to make them at home.
Sunscreen a must. Drink plenty of fluids. A folding chair is nice for when you’re not working or running. (That reminds me, I have to see if my blue one is in the truck from last year).
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. I’m usually there pretty early just wandering around so look for my red GTO.
OK last question for now: What would my class letters be? I’m a Novice, my car model falls under GS, and my modified intake puts it into Street Touring - S. I’m really going to need a wagon if I have to fit 9NGSSTS down the side.
9 NSTS
