Yeah, so its the "i need a new job thread".

150k in what part of the country? 150K isn’t the same in Boston as it is here.

Anyone can be successful anywhere, if you’re not making what you want to be making that’s becuase you’re not doing something. It’s not your jobs fault you’re sitting in a dead end posistion or haven’t had a raise in 2 years…fuck. If you don’t take chances when you’re young b/c you’re “comfortable” with mediocrity you’ll be 40 and pissed off at your stagnant career.

Look, I’m sympathetic to the high school drop out mom working 3 min-wage jobs to feed her kids…or the guy that fucked up and is trying to put his life together. I feel for the people working for that slave labor rate we call a minimum wage…but seriously now, you have a college degree stop fucking bitching and go do something with your life. Do you know how many people on this board are financially very successful without one? Howie, Jack, Zer0daze, just to name a few.

If you’re not making what you want with any sort of college education it’s because you’re doing something wrong, not b/c the job market sucks.

I’ve been saying this for a while, but if you’re making under 10 or 12 dollars an hour and you think you’re a reasonably smart person, you’re doing something wrong.

Shit lie on your resume…if it takes flash and sparkle to get a job fucking lie…the only way you’re going to get in trouble for it is if you suck at the job. I know people who are 7 years into huge paying jobs and they lied their ass off on the resume to get that job…but they keep getting raises…because they get the fucking job done. No one actually cares what your degree is in or even if you have one, all a company cares about is having the best person to do the job. You think any of the other board of directors are worried about Bill Gates fucking up microsoft b/c he’s a college drop out?

OH and another thing, why do you expect to be pulling in the big bucks right out of college? Seriously, wtf. Experience trumps everything. Work a couple shitty jobs in the field you want to work in and if they dont promote you quit and use that experience to demand more money at your next job.

No shit, he would be the king of buffalo with that kind of cash there. He is down here where there actually is money to be made (and spent). NY metro area.

agreed, there is so much more outside of Buffalo, I live temporarily in St. louis,MO. and it is nice to be somewhere where people want to live. I notice a difference just being there 8 months at the quality of peoples lives and the city. New businesses actually want to come there, where new businesses go, new jobs are created. I am a pilot and would like to live back here around buffalo, but I don’t know if the market is strong enough, this area is great, but declining economically. Don’t be afraid to move.

Where are you there? I grew up in Fairview Heights/Belleville.

And Joe I disagree with you on some points. My experience has been employers verify info on your resumes and apps, I don’t suggest anyone lie on them.

i love that area, fairview heights is done up so nice, i live in alton, altons allright, but anywhere across the river is great…aka st. louis, love west county

Everyone I’ve ever talked to has never had an employer call their college and check to see if they have their degree…if anyone has please speak up.

Besides what’s going to happen if you lie on your resume? You’re not going to get the job you wouldn’t even be considered for to begin with?

Hey sometimes you have to lie to get ahead, business isn’t flowers and blue skies…

My company has never checked anyone we’ve hired…my dad has never checked any of the non-lawyers he’s hired…etc… etc… etc…

150k in nyc metro area is like making 400-500k easy in buffalo

they checked up on me… my old boss called me actually when they were doing it asking me “someone is doing a background check on you, do you want me to call them back”… then again… i do some serious stuff and at any one time i could ship myself off to switezerland and live on a mountain someplace for the rest of my life based on the type of infomation i see

it all depends who you work for and what you do.

Alton huh…I know u have been to Fast Eddie’s. Besides there and river rd cruises I avoid Alton. I like St Charles County.

well yeah obviously places like that are going to check or the government…

It just isn’t worth the risk. Also, if schooling has no bearing on gettin a good job, there would be no need to lie about it.

Go self employed

J.O.B. = Just Over Broke

People need money not jobs

Look into equity trading of tax lien certificates, residual income is the best type of income.

INdeed. BUt it takes money to make money, and everyone can’t just do it. I do it, but I still need to work until the biz become self-sufficient.

Schooling has a big impact on getting a job…The ability to do the job has far more impact on keeping it. If you have an Assoc. and the job you want requires a bach. lie, it’s not illegal to lie on your resume. If you know you can’t get the job w/ an assoc and experience and a great interview, it’s not going to cost you anything.

Look obviously you shouldn’t lie just becuase…but if you’re not getting what you want, either lie or go back to school.

It will come back to haunt you if you do not give a full proper disclosing of you credentials. I have heard some real horror stories are large companies especialy if they have a good HR dept.

It’s called networking. I can imagine you’re more likely to meet people with good connections at a school that is “elite.”

Cornell’s computer science program isn’t all that strong.

Haha re-read your post. Ain’t dyslexia a bitch? :stuck_out_tongue:

So yeah, I’d comment on the shit in this thread but JoesTypeS has pretty much covered all the bases. The job market in Buffalo sucks but that’s not an excuse to sit on your ass not forging forward. And degrees != high paying jobs.

You can have all the degrees u want, if the jobs aren’t there, u have to go where they are. What works for some, does not work for all. So are all these college students leavin the area just sittin on their asses?

Nope, they’re doing what they’ve got to do to get ahead. Which has meant relocating for a lot of people around here lately.

He didn’t get either of his jobs because of “connections”. He got his job out of school which started at about $65k soley because his degree and the fact that it was from Cornell, and limited intern experience. The fact that he doesn’t suck helps too.
