ZX2 has trouble starting in cold

the pump is not bleeding back, i took the hose off the fuel pump when the car was cold and fuel pumped right out, strong as hell immediately

chances are, with the info you have given, its a clogged IAC or the IAC is on its way out. usually when a car is extremely hard to start/stumbles, etc. its IAC, and when that is totally shot, the car wont start unless your almost flooring the gas, and then you cant let completly off the gas to shift it into gear, and have to break torque it at lights and such so it doesnt die. i have the haynes manual for the focus, so it should be the same as the ZX2, so if you want i can scan in the page for where the IAC is and email it to you

well, once the car starts, it run fine. feels like a tad bit of a rough idle, but other then that it feels fine once its running. i was thinking maybe the fuel pressure regulator. I really cant be guessing here tho. We have little to no money to buy parts, so when i buy a part, that HAS to be the problem. i am gonna check up on this other stuff tho and let u know how it goes

normally when you shut the car off there is about 40psi rail psi maintained, whats happening is overnight the psi is bleeding off to 0, priming the pump several times builds line psi again, either the regualtor is getting weak and bleeding back psi, or the drain back valve in the pump is going

make sure the fuel filter is fresh

^^ very good point, wouldnt have thought of that

it should NOT take 15 minutes to build the pressure in the system back up, maybe an extra few turns. Im thinking that the fuel regulator might just be failing under initial start since pressure under initial start is a little higher then under a warm start. focusinprogress, can u find out about that adapter so i can get a pressure guage on the rail and figure out if i have a pressure problem?

I have the adaptors for pretty much every damn car made.

the site that sells them is currently down…ill let ya know as soon as they get it back up

help me out then man, i need to get this taken care of

I work 8-5 during the week. We’d have to set something up for after that. We’ll be doing it outside in the cold so I’m gonna need Tim Horton’s, Beer or both. Let me know when you can bring your car by and I’ll bring the tools and pressure test set home.

it doesn’t take 15min to cycle the key 10x

good luck, I offered all the insight I can…

i can do it wed. night…illbring tmmiy hos n a six pack and maybe some food…lemme kno

sent you a PM

just went to racerx’s to diagnose the car. fuel pressure is bleeding back officially. We put it on the computer and it dropped to 0 in about 15 minutes. There is no return line or regulator so its gotta be the pump. When i get the pump and throw it in ill update. Thanks again man, i owe u one

o yea…i forgot, the fuel pump on the earlier foci were recalled, i bet its the same damn pump with the same problem…completely forgot about that.

It is a fuel pump, same thing happened on my friend’s ZX2 (ford comped her parts and she had to pay labor on it) - there is some sort of TSB out on it.

im gonna call ford tomorow then

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/19/011948en.html , def was a recall on the pump

I don’t see a fuel pump recall there.

called em today, its not a fuel pump recall its a programming thing. causes the car to stall. hey racerx, ford has the fuel pump assy. for 140, whats the difference btwn carquest’s and ford’s?

EDIT: will ford’s pump just fail again?
