1990'S JAP CARS VS 2000'S JAP CARS

im 19 and your the same, so we didnt “grow up” in a sense to this generation of cars. basically what im tryin to say is you or me or a bunch of people didnt have your permit/license in the early 90’s to expiernece all this as we got older. now we just read abuot it, and see all the modded ones that poeple have touched. i would have loved to have a 300zx as my first car, and be faster/most technologically advanced then most cars out there.

I’d have to go with the 1990’s jap cars. Back then it seems that they built the cars around looks/performance, 2-door, RWD, low profile. Also most of the nice cars in the 90’s didn’t have optional 4 door sedan versions. In the 2000’s we now have cars mostly designed around safety and economy. IMO most cars these days are way to tall and not wide enough. Also OBD2=FAIL lol

Cars were better from a performance minded standpoint in the 90s simply because of the weight, cars these days are boats with all the power/safety shit stuffed into them.

Too bad the Apex seal sucks almost as bad as typing with the CAPS key on.

Here is the thing, we say the cars from the 90’s were better because we can find them for a dime a dozen used.

In reality ten years from now we’re all gonna be driving 10 year old S2000s, 350zs, Rx8s, WRXs, STIs, and Evos saying how all the new cars suck.

Its all a matter of perspective, cost, and inflation.

Here’s another reality;

Mitsubishi or any company could give two shits that a bunch of kids think about a car. I ASSume they do marketing and make changes for ONE reason: Increase SALES and make MONEY

They don’t get into the room and decide how to squeeze out 1/4 mile ETs and TRACK times.

I like older Japanese cars. I like 90s cars more than 2000’s, but heres what I REALLY REALLY like

you get the idea ;D

Supra > ALL

RX-7’s stock were famous for over heating due to the radiator not being big enough to cool down the TT motor

RX8 is a overall turd, but a detailed turd.

350z’s have one of the biggest drive train loses I have ever seen on any car

STI’s and Evo’s impress me everytime I see one run more and more…over all, either one is a very good platform.

300zx’s are pretty damn nice looking…and can move pretty well stock…however, I would never want to work on one…

3000gt’s are a nice overall car…looks, TT, AWD…and the interiors are nice

If I were to generalize, I would have to say that 90’s cars are superior to that of 00’s +.

With the new age cars get heavier and heavier, manufacturers stuff them with more electronic gizmo’s then McGyver would know what to do with. BMW builds a 300hp/300tq car and throws an electronic differential into it :confused

I’m much more attracted to the exterior designs of 90’s cars and a lot of the interiors just rub me the right way, not to mention OBD0 and OBD1.

To put things into perspective Honda’s gained 1000 pounds for the base civic over the 18 years and it will only keep getting heavier. From the regular Joe point of view, he got the features and creature comforts he wanted, but from a perspective of the scene, 90’s cars were superior and better platforms.

I’ve always loved older cars… nothing beats mid 90s japanese muscle.

OBDI FTW

Wow. I am really shocked to see the responses I have seen so far. I thought most of you guys would have been saying 2000+. 90’s Jap cars are better IMO for a lot of the previously mentioned reasons. Just like I would say that 60’s and early 70’s American muscle is better than MOST of todays cars. They were just made differently…

fixed

;D

True. But, I thnk they are doing much better? Regardless, Mitsubishi as a whole will never go under unless they want to. Way too much money in the parent company.

It’s true some owners didn’t know what they were getting into… But worrying about recalibrating A/F after throwing an intake and exhaust on a car or risking severe engine damage on a cold day- kind of sensitive in my opinion. For me personally I wouldn’t have the patience to be endlessly fiddling after such a basic mod.

so the highlights of this thread,

-OBD2 BLOWS
-Cars such as the supra/rx7/etc were done b/c of expense
-Bobbyt doesnt know were the caps button is
-Supra > ALL
-RX8 is a overall turd
-In reality ten years from now we’re all gonna be driving 10 year old S2000s, 350zs, Rx8s, WRXs, STIs, and Evos saying how all the new cars suck
-Vadim loves posting pics

i have had no problems, but look into the history of the RX7 Turbo/twin turbo and then think about that for a second. those things were poorly designed in every way of the word. the car is wonderful, but the turbo system, engine cooling system, and the Rotary over all is a bad design… good idea, but tough to build one strong enough for what alot of rotary people throw at them.

Great cliffs :crackup

yea, i agree that cars are gettin a lot heavier. i mean, on the one side its good. theyre getting some more structural reinforcements, which is a plus on the safety side. weight is a problem for racing. you just sorta have to find a balance. for the most part, i dont like any of the newer cars because of their design. to your average commuter, it doesnt matter all that much as long as they get their fat ass in the comfy seat and have a cupholder for the coffee. im more of a fan of function over form way of thinking. yes, theres cars i wouldnt want to drive because they dont look appealing to me, but if it does what id like it to do, visual is the last category i look at when picking one out. i think because i got into the car thing in the late 80s and early 90s im stuck in that phase and that is how cars should look, to me, at least. i like the 90’s era cars a lot. esp earlier 90s models. like i was saying to some ppl out in the lot on friday, i really miss pop up headlights. why dont cars come with that anymore? theyre so awesome, and not just because u can do the sleepy eye look. headlights are now all HUGE. they dont look big at all in the car, but you remove one and youre holding this big hunk thats like over 2 feet long and a foot deep and youre like, the hell? motors used to be that big.

The 90’s will always be my favorite era for cars. That was when manufacturers were trying out new things, looking for the “future” factor that they can add to cars. The Japanese godzillas are STILL more advanced than some cars out today, and you’re talking about cars that are pushing up to 18 years old. All that manufacturers are concerned with today is emissions. Thats not to say that we shouldn’t be focusing on our impact on the environment, but it makes it less feasible to produce the gas-guzzling hyper cars of the 90’s.

I love how a kid with a stock 240 bashes a Rx8 :headbang A stock 240 is as slow as a civic ex automatic :lol
