2009 Formula 1 Season discussion

While probably true it can at least account for some speed.

It’s not like you can just tack on different aero components to your chassis and expect them to work…teams are going to need to spend some serious wind tunnel time to adapt any of the Brawn aero devices to their chassis. I’m sure that’s all going on right now, running those tunnels 24/7.

so i watched the race… what the hell kind of rain is that?! One thing i really enjoyed was the glock/vettel battle right before the rain hit and stopped the race.

congrats to Brawn GP… again. they are serious contenders and don’t even have a sponsor, that’s what racing is all about.

Malaysia was the first F1 race I have ever sat down to watch, and it was COOL!

lol, I don’t know anything about F1, so I have nothing useful to add.

Great race until the rain hit. I wondered how hard it was going to come down considering Nurburgring and Fuji rain races recently.

I like Jenson a lot. I guess no better person to be on top … well other than BMW Sauber

I’m not surprised that the FIA allowed the diffusers from Brawn and Toyota and I am not surprised that Brawn was at the top of the board for friday practice. I am however not understanding how the other teams do not have these diffusers ready so that if the FIA said “yes” they could be ready.

Ron Dennis is also gone from Mclaren for good… busy week in F1.

Ron isn’t gone from McLaren he’s just not in charge of the Motorsports/F1 division anymore. The other teams have a serious dilemma about the diffusers as the entire design of the Toyota/Williams/Brawn cars are based around them to take advantage of that change in the rules, whereas just slapping them on the other cars will not yield the same results. Combine that with a ban on aero testing and I’ll still tip towards Button/Brawn for WDC/WCC. I can only hope!

i’m watching the practice and that is exactly what they said about Ron Dennis so I’m going to the website to find out.

I forgot about the ban on aero testing… my boys at Ferrari are pretty much screwed for the WDC/WCC

LOL

EXCITING Qual… Toyota 1 - 2 UGH! WHY!!

and BMW Sauber :frowning: lose the KERS already!

just imagine if toyota won the championship

I don’t think thats possible… it looks like ferrari is inching itself closer… give them another race and they’ll be back on top… as much as i hate to admit it… they are showing great progress.

I really don’t know what the fuck is wrong with BMW

IMO Redbull has the best driver/setup combo with vettel… He may not be the next shumacher but Vettel Looks STRONG!

Brawn had a great start but it looks like their reign is over

lol, it looks like their reign is over? What do you have to suggest that? I see nothing. Do you have a bunch of manatees making your F1 picks Dan?

Sure, other teams are inching closer to Brawn, but they have a great head start. Ferrari has made some progress, but they are far from a frontrunning team right now. Only Toyota, Brawn, RBR and McL (Hamilton) can really run at the front consistently. I’d say Brawn is still the strong favorite for the next couple GPs.

Brawn has the fastest car and a very solid driver combination, though not spectacular.

Toyota has the pace to run with the Brawns and at times has more pace, but their driver combo is lackluster. That’s the curse of having sucked ass since they came into F1, they just don’t have much to offer drivers.

RBR has a solid chassis but is missing the super-diffuser, so it doesn’t quite compare with Brawn/Toyota. However, it’s a Newey design, it is a great chassis and is probably the “best of the rest” (teams without the diffuser). They’d be competing for 5-12 each race if it wasn’t for the brilliance of Vettel.

McLaren’s saving grace is the KERS and (as much as I hate to admit it) the talent of Hamilton. Hamilton is a fucking BEAR to pass with that KERS system and with his driving style, and he isn’t afraid to make extremely aggressive moves to pass, driving hard into a corner and using the KERS to make up for lost exit speed. It’s going to be a potent combo as the KERS is refined and they make the chassis more competitive.

That’s my breakdown of the frontrunners…anything to add, Mike?
