Actually, more often than not people get away.
they just get your plate and get you afterwards. Police chases are dangerous.
dont be fooled by TV Mr. Cal.
the point is not whether or not it is right or whether you shoudl be travelling at 150kph. That is totally beside the point.
The point is that people do and people will and that the law does not make the roads safer. It criminalizes non-criminal behaviour.
It is EXACTLY like gun control. People with legal guns dont need to be controlled. driving at 150kph is as dangerous as owning a gun…
meaning…there is not necessarily any correlation between speeding and traffic death just as there is not any correlation between owning a registered gun and being involved in a gun crime.
The situation you described about that dude in the vigor has nothing to do with speeding. It is dangerous driving… there were already provisions in the law to take care of that guy. this new law doesnt help any. All it does is criminalize people driivng 150kph in a straight line.
I could go on for days…
more accidents happen on a per capita basis below 150kph. more accidents happen as a result of intoxication, more injuries are related to not wear seatbelts. etc. etc.
you could already impound a vehicle for intoxication or excessive speed. The officer, at his discretion could already deem you to be unfit to drive and take your car and tow it away. That hasnt changed.
What has changed is that your ultimate fate was decided before a judge.
This law does not benefit anyone. It does not save lives and it does not prevent speeding.
I have said it before. Travelling at that speed is not a calculated, risk adjusted decision.
You do not drive 100kph and then gradually decide to increase speed and weight the speed verus the appropriate fine and then versus the increased risk of decreasing your ability to react to a situation in front of you.
Your own health is of far greater value than your dollars. Anyone would pay $10,000 to take back a severe traffic accident. And therefore you are not making a calculated decision when you travel that fast.
And IF you are not thinking of the consequeneces when you do travel that fast, which you are not, then it doesnt matter what the dollars associated to it are.
If this arguement doesnt get the point across then how about this…
Texas has the DEATH PENALTY and people STILL KILL each other…
So how much do you think the murder rate will decrease if you double the death penalty to killing people even more… like killing them twice and stuff?
If you enacted the death penalty for speeidng at 150kph over do you think you would eliminate speeding over 150kph?
nope… because people are not thinking about the consequence or may not even be aware when they are doing it…
therefore, the law does not eliminate speeding and therefore it does not make the roads risk free.
because it does neither of these things and taxes non-criminal behaviour so severaly it is effectly a subjective error in law.
The exact same arguement holds true for modified cars… they can be impounded for being modified and you guys are still buying turbos, rads, coilovers etc.
If you support, in any way shape and form, this law or defend it in any way and have a modified car you are a hypocrit.
