Shit yeah I was still responsible for the outcome. I was in control of the bike all the way up until I was booted over the bars and struck the tree! I tried my damn’dest to point it at the grassy lawn, and slow down as much as I could, but the dudes driveway i was headed for to hit his lawn had a nasty ledge in my way!
It was an accident in the beginning and a crash in the end. lets agree on that one. lol
Yeah it was peachy. Bill was 23K for the ride, and a $600 bill for the waaamulance ride 150 feet to the field to put me in it! Asshole insurance company paid $5000 for the heli bill and sent me an invoice for the other $18K!!! Said they only covered me up to the distance to take me to the nearest hospital, NOT albany med and they wouldn’t cover it because it was “my decision to go there”! Riggght, I am supposed to tap the pilot on the shoulder and tell him “Nahhh i dont think I am that bad, just take me to that shit hole St. Marys hospital in Amsterdam!”
That took 14 months to get covered correctly.
I was double billed and triple billed a few times by my insurance co. A few months apart each time, you would be amazed at how many people wouldn’t pay attention and just pay them… fucking scammers.
constant run arounds, ohh we wont pay this, or that by some $8/hr phone clerk, then an hour later once I speak to 4 other people, ohh yeah we will cover that its just a “technicality.” “Ohh its a motor vehicle accident (learned after a few calls not to mention a motorcycle accident) we dont cover that you need to contact your car insurance co.” Then you call the car insurance and get “Ohh you need to contact your health insurance first.” finally I got sick of doing their jobs for them, got smart and conference called them BOTH in together, mentioned I also had my Lawyer on the other line and they both changed their tunes real quick.
Good health insurance doesn’t show up in Websters Dictionary bro!
Ohh and the chopper shit… what made it worse is the chopper Co was based in PA, with machines/crew all over NY… Who are CONTRACTED to GAVAC. So to get anymeans of communication going between my TWO insurance co’s fighting, and the chopper people, its 3-5 layers deep! royal pain in the ass.
damn, thats terrible. I didn’t have any problems. do you have medical coverage on your motorcycle insurance? its the law that automobile insurance has to include personal injury coverage in NY, but that actually doesn’t apply to motorcycle insurance. The fact that i didn’t have any might have made the process go smoother.
However I think that this should stay open as a reminder to young riders what can happen when you don’t play it safe. I have not seen any full on disrespect for the deceased ITT. Just plain common sense that should be known to all.
Hell, I think all RIP threads from irresponsible riders should be stickied… then maybe more people would see them all and may think twice (yea right, who am i kidding… but its worth a shot)
how do you figure its off topic? We paid our respects, and are actually putting decent information out there about riding, respecting the sport and preparing yourself as a rider to A stay alive, B if you do crash what shit you might need to deal with as a result.
yes was insured health wise up to 5K myself or 50K for others involved (riding with me or me hitting someone else). Legally once the motorcycle & its health insurance is exhausted, its up to the riders primary health car to take over.
WHICH is another good point for the young riders, and why this shouldn’t be locked. How many of you young riders, work part time and go to school, and DONT HAVE full primary health insurance??? If you didnt Have fun paying back $120K+ in medical bills, after you exhaust the $5K coverage under your gieco or what ever when you go down.
And if you think we are disrespecting your friend by me telling my personal riding lesson, how come you havnt chimed in on it? Ask me to stop? Instead just troll the thread with 1 word responses?
Sorry if that is a bit disrespectful, but its the truth? Everyone’s opinions are warranted in this, or any thread on here.
Thats fine… then maybe call it quits on this thread. honestly. Shift518 is about the best form of negative reinforcement I can think of! Not a good way to cope with the pain of a lost one.
We all respected your loss for the most part. The thread has sort of shifted (like everything here does) and is now leaning towards helping/hoping someone else doesn’t make the same mistake and put more loved ones through the pain you are going through now.
I just had lunch with my good friend/motorcycle buddy. The numerous deaths lately had him a bit shook up on this. (The crash in Amsterdam was real close to where we ride a lot) But I reminded him that the same thing happened to me a few years back. His response then was “what you going to do, live scared all your life, live in a bubble, that’s not living either, you’re just as dead”. Accidents happen every year and we all say, how it seems like so many. Do a search back a year or two in the past. It sucks to hear, but it happens. It’s part of the risk we take when we hop on a motorcycle and head out on public roads.
Anyways, it’s hearsay, but he said that his girlfriends…blah, blah, so and so. Said that the person who had died, his friend was the firefighter that was called to the scene to take witness testimonials. Supposedly, all of the witnesses said that motorcycle speed wasn’t a factor. The car pulled out in front of the motorcycle and the motorcyclist had no choice but to hit the car. I don’t know any names and can’t prove this, but that is what I had heard. So thank you Channel 6 and the rest of you biased news media types for turning this to make it look like another “crazy kid on a sportbike” death story.
I’d say experience may have helped him out in this situation, but if a car pulls a quick one 5’ in front of you to dash across the road and you’re doing 30-40mph right towards them…….you don’t have a chance no matter who you are or what your riding/driving. Speed/distance/reaction time suggests you wouldn’t have enough time to even do anything about it…
I’ve seen some dumb moves from people on bikes and yeah, from time to time, I ride like a stupid fuck too. No matter what, I wouldn’t wish them dead nor harm to the driver of the car. It’s unfortunate on both sides of the crash.
RIP to the rider and sorry to his friends and family.
It’s been established that the kid was doing 100mph plus in a 40… Doesn’t matter if she cut him off or not, if he wasn’t doing that high speed this wouldn’t have happened.
Colonie cops must be lying about the kids speed, id much rather listen to a volunteer firefighter…
