I hate to be that guy, but I’m gonna ask for some “proof” as to why you can’t cut a 1/2 a coil off your springs.

I’m pretty sure that 1/2 a coil won’t make your shock “bottom out” that much quicker than a traditional 2" lowering spring. I know a lot of Euro cars like VWs Audi’s and BMW’s have taller springs in the USDM versions of their cars for the stupid US bumper height requirements. Do these taller springs have lower rates too or are they matched up for the shock/strut they are on? How much different is it than the Air suspension where the bag acts as the spring, yet there still is a strut/shock underneath it.

If they were cut with a torch they are probably shot.
Depending on the shape of the spring it may not seat properly either.
It also depends on the suspension dimensions, a 1/2" of spring could drop the car much more than a 1/2".

True. I had “this friend” that might have cut them with a wheel, and it didn’t seem to cause any problems.

IIRC you can actually heat them with a torch and they will lower without cutting.

its not the best way to go about it but there is no problem as long as you drive carefully.

I drove an adam beck edition jetta with his cut springs for a year and it was fine. you just have to realize the difference and drive accordingly

Really not a good idea…but its your car. I can’t imagine a set of springs costing more than $200 for a Probe.

The thing is, by heating the springs you are essentially causing them to fail, especially if you just heat one spot.
By heating one spot you are putting all of the force/stress on that spot.

How can you possibly control the heat so that each spring is identical?

yes!!! thats why i dont understand why people are bitching, they were the bottem ones that never move, and were cut off with a cut off wheel, i was more or less asking if it was a good idea to just torch the backs to lower it but i guess not so ill just do the same as the fronts

FYI INACTIVE COILS WERE CUT, ITS MY CAR, ILL DO WHAT I WISH, THE CAR DRIVES,HANDLES FINE, ALIGNMENT IS ALSO STILL SET PERFECTLY
SO IF NO ONE LIKES IT OR ISNT GOING OT JUST ANSWER MY QUESTION ON TORCHING IT STFU
