in regaurds to this…i was at a local hot rod meet this past tuesday, i got into quite the discussion with some of the older fella’s.
They can remember being pulled over and harrased if there plate was dirty. This is nothing new, roll with the punches, keep under the radar and have fun.

this whole street racing thing is getting WAY out of hand. People with modified cars better look for a new hobby? fuck that. Modifying cars is happening right across the board, whether it be a mini-van, a 240 or some old muscle car. I can’t beleive the amount of bullshit that is going on. The local/provincial/federal levels of government really need to take a step back for a second and re-evaluate this whole thing. We have cops from different places all over Ontario, and Canada disagreeing, and even showing their accident statistics on how often “street racing” has hurt/killed 1 or more persons.
I personally think something needs to be addressed about the amount of idiots out there try to “drift” or “race” on city streets, that kind of stuff should not be conducted in that fashion. At one time or another, everyone has in some form have pulled up beside someone and gunned it once the light has turned green, I’ll admit it, I’ve done it, however, when I was doing that, I was only 17/18/19 years old. Now almost 10 years later, I can look back and realize that I’m very lucky that nothing bad ever came from it, not even a speeding ticket. There are too many kids out there that are still wet behind the ears from getting their graduated G2 license, take their parent’s car and go out to joyride.
I also agree with Lucky’s post, I have spoke with older guys that have big horsepowered muscle cars about this whole street racing issue. We through around ideas and suggestions on what all this is turning into, but it really isn’t anything new, it’s always been happening, and it will continue to happen as long as people continue getting into accidents “street racing” or driving like morons. However, the whole issue about modifying cars and whatnot, I understand the reasoning behind not letting certain things pass as “safe for street use”, but when people continue being hassled, fined, having cars impounded for improper muffler, or aftermarket rims, that is just getting ridiculous. Whether you can afford to buy stock hi-powered car, or drop a couple hundred/thousand into a 240 or civic, as long as the car passes safety and e-testing, I dont see what the difference is. We all know, whether you are driving like an idiot or not, a modified car will get hassled first, before any higher class expensive car will, whether or not one driver is younger or older, or even the same age driving either car.
Telling people to find a new hobby, and i’m sure the statement was directed towards import enthusiasts, is a bit extreme and quite ignorant.
The only thing I like about living in the Windsor area is how laid back the cops are with respect to modified vehicles, especialy imports. The don’t go around looking to pull people over for the hell of it like they do in bigger cities.
I have to agree with you as well. Where I am, the cops are fairly good for the most part, but when I’m out in my 240 (that has no exterior mods other than the spoiler) I get pulled over frequently, and REALLY randomly. Especially in the downtown core, cops are usually always hanging around, so I never drive over the limit in that area, but always seen to be pulled over.
Man, I’m sick of the rhetoric from these city councilers/politicians. What a bloody joke, this whole issue is ridiculous. No, I don’t support street racing at all, but if the powers that be really wanted to stop it, or at least curtail it somewhat, they could. But, let’s face it, they won’t. And why is that…yes, you guessed it, money!!! If the people in political office weren’t such greasy bastards, they wouldn’t talk out of both sides of their mouths at once. The easy solution would be…build a drag strip in/near Toronto. Wow, what a concept, eh? But this isn’t going to happen, and why, yes as I said before, money! It will be a cold day in hell before the city of Toronto or province of Ontario uses some of their precious land to build a dragstrip for some punk kids, when they could sell it to a developer for millions, and then make millions more per year on taxes from the houses/condos/apartments/malls/businesses they build on those lands. Toronto is a world class city?? Yeah, right . The closest drag strip that I know of is “Toronto” Motorsports Park in Cayuga, a nice couple hour drive from downtown T.O. Pathetic.

Generally I don’t let this type of thing bother me, the bill hasn’t even passed yet, and normally it wouldn’t. However, with the recent events, and the media coverage, this issue has an enormous amount of push behind it, and that worries me.
MR200 was right in the fact that not only does it have push, but I can’t see your typical MP from any side arguing against it. That’s a problem. I hope for the auto enthusiasts sake there are some auto enthusiasts in parliment or this won’t have any resistance.
At this point the discussion about a vehicle being modified is ground enough for seizure of a vehicle without conviction bothers me even more, because that gives police infinitely more power to seize a car, with zero grounds to do so, even if your car meets all EPA and HTA laws and specs.
In essence, this is martial law for car guys.
The only resistance I can see, and it could be a big one, is simply that this is no difference then predjudice against a minority group. Cop pulls over a black person and arrests them or searchs their car based on stereotypes and predjudice, he gets fired.
A cop pulls over a car enthusiast and seizes the vehicle based on the notion that his or her car is modified with the intention to street race, he gets a medal.

It’s going to be about 10 times worse for 240 owners too, because right now, your under the searchlight with this new movie. So I suggest you stay as low key as possible.
Either way, there is only so much you can do as a group, vote against the conservatives next time around, but for now, this fate lies in the hands of some crusty bitter seniors, who make a living lieing to the public.
