The new measures announced by Harper will make street racing a Criminal Code offence that will come with stiffer sentences for those convicted of street racing.
The legislation will also introduce driving prohibitions for those who are convicted.
i dont have access to the member section, so if this has already been posted you can delete it, but i figured it needed to be shared
thats good and i agree with the fact that it should be taken more serious, but in turn they are going to be targeting the enthusiasts as well. people that have modified vehicles but drive safely and take it to the track are going to be put through more BS then ever because of how their car looks and sounds
i can think of a FEW local people i know who would “benefit” from this new legislation. I’m happy to finally see something being done about these idiots.
^ While I’m sure all of us agree that people like the ones you’re talking about deserve to be put away, the reason why the rest of us are pissed is because they won’t be targeting just street racers, everyone that likes cars is gonna get rammed hard up the ass. When they implement a program like this, they want results fast, and they’re gonna crack down on everyone and everything so they can have something to show for it.
Some of the comments made in this thread make me sick…this board is out of control.
The article says stiffer penalties for street racers, not jail time for punk-ass kid’s with fart cannons on their cars that are slammed to the ground on cheap coilovers.
Okay, how bout you grab a midol first?
What kinda world do you think we live in? You think the government and cops give a damn about anything but REVENUE? You think that ONLY street racers are gonna get nailed? You are so naive… We’re all going to reap what a couple of dumbasses that street race have sown, and Harper’s Tories are gonna get rich off it.
Eee… directed at sidewayssilvias14… Avery and lucky are damn quick on their keyboards
then get rid of your giant flashy fart cans, dotn drive like an idiot and roll witht he punches.
Lets face facts, us as import enthusiasts will always be targeted in 1 way or another, no way around it. A nd frankly, the added attension from the police was going to happen anyways this comming month because of F&F. You have pop culture to blame. Nothing else.
2 almost identical s13’s pull up beside each toher at a streetlight. 1 is a sil80, the other a s13 hatch. Both have sr’s, identical mods. No body kits, nothing flashy. The sil80 however doesnt have a huge fartcan hanging from under the rear bumper…who gets pulled over?
quit giving the police a reason to harass you and you wont get harassed.
I support this initiative. Now only if the police can actually target the STREET RACERS and not everyone who has a modified car. Its a pipe dream to think that cops will ignore modified cars.
For one, a street race is only a couple of seconds long. Whats the probability that a cop will come upon them in such a short time frame? Quite low. But cops do have quotas to meet and as a result all auto enthusiasts pay the price.
To all those who asked the PM to “suck a homosexuals dick” and such, try to be a little more mature. Who here can say that street racing is not harmful (unless they are on a isolated stretch in the middle of nowhere)? We have had unecessary fatalities, the death of that cab driver comes to mind. Now, its proven that street racing actually causes fewer deaths than people dying from lightning strikes. But even ONE death is too many. Try to imagine for a second…would you be willing to die, just so two ricers can race down a stretch? How about losing your mom or dad to a “street racer”? I hope the cops are successful in cracking down on people who drive like ignorant fucks…and this includes these so called street racers. If you feel the need to push your car, go to a sanctioned, legal event. There is no need to put an innocent person’s life on the line.
In case you haven’t noticed, the police are already cracking down on loud exhaust and unsafe rides and have been for years now. What do you think they’re going to do? Spend even more resources for EXTRA cruisers to patrol the streets ridding the community of these evil modded vehicles?
^^ this is how I feel, I fail the “attitude test” every time.
yeah I love reading about street racers who get in accidents in the paper, half the time the vehicles are stock, and more often than not they aren’t even performance oriented vehicles, but grocery getters’
Media should have a field day with this as they always do…
and my point about the definition was missed;
here’s the def. from manitoba;
"“race” means a contest of speed between two or more motor vehicles, whether or not the contest involves a prize, when there is an indication of a common intention between the drivers to engage in the contest; (« course ») "
this is so vague, that if your on the highway about to pass someone and they speed up as you do it could be construed as a race. Or if your in the wrong lane at a set of lights and accelerate quickly to get the other lane, that could be a race…
I expect to see this law (should it make it through the legislature) mis-used again and again…
