S2K is the lazy man’s FD. Don’t have to replace all the rad hoses, vacuum hoses, rad, intercooler, upgrade fuel pump, etc… when you buy one, you can just start driving it. And I know you don’t HAVE to do it on an FD either, but you know you WILL if you want it to last.
you’d need to do that with the S2K if it was over 10 years old as well… too bad the series VII & VIII FD’s were never released here… the issues with the series VI were solved and any sortcomings were re-eng. and upgraded…
the S2K is one fo the few cars I’d say was a possible lesser subtitute for the FD… Elise is another one that comes to mind… ( neither have the power though…)
Well, yea, given the choice, I would buy an FD over the S2K, but for someone that knows less about the internals of the car and just wants to drive it an S2K would be a better choice. The FD’s that we got here, their cooling system is a disaster, and the twin turbo system is just so prone to failure b/c the hoses get all crusty and crack. The Japanese were lucky to get the nice new ones with the cleaned up and sorted out boost control (instead of the rat’s nest we get here).
Problem is most people that buy an FD just put a 3" exhaust and up the boost and then the cars get a reputation for being unreliable.
