Average Time For SR Swap

just wondering if you guys could post your experiences either swapping motors yoruself or getting someone to do it for you, what was the average time from when you stopped driving your car until it was driving WELL with an SR?

I’m guessing the average is between 3weeks - 1month

Bob and I (mostly Bob) did one in 3 days… I came back one week later to fix a flaky MAF wire.

And as for the second one, I’ll let you know by the end of the week.

Originally when i did mine it took me 4 weeks but I had to wait first for a new radiator to come in then a new oil pan sooo…

now I have it in and out in a weekend no problem

mine took 4 weeks but I was also barly working on it and had never done anything like that before. this winters I was swaping everything in a weekend

1 week… pulled the KA, fixed the frame, mounted the IC, dropped in the SR and hooked it all up, built my own exhaust + and own IC piping.

yea mine took about a week and change by the time it was all done.

there were a vew small things here and there…

it probly would have taken less time if i wasnt such a noob back then.

now… with all parts and such and a decent starting platform i bet 3 days.

GT

it really depends oh how much custom work you’re doing.

a direct swap takes me 2 full days, if I need to make IC pipes, put on new suspension, bolt ons, it will take about a week.

that is of course assuming I don’t need to wait on any parts/gaskets. it’s those small things that usually make the time add up.

especially with these import motors where a lot of parts aren’t stocked.

paul, we have to get that motor in there by friday…

If you have done a few then it is easily doable in 2-3 days with the right tools. For the average joe in his driveway probably a week.

One month. Because of:

  1. I took my sweet time not to overlook anything
  2. Oil cooler/relocation install
  3. Cleaning up block
  4. Re-taped entire wiring harnesses
  5. Took extra time to take pictures of everything. Usually taking pics of
the same thing from about 30 differnt angles. :hsugh:
  6. Double check everything (Except clutch because I was so sure it was ok :hsugh: )
  7. Worked alone because I have no friends

Looking back now, provided i have everything (fluids, parts, etc.), it can
be done over the weekend with a couple of people.

That was one LONG month.

Gonad wins award for longest SR swap ever!

^ I’m pushing almost 2 years now… haven’t even bought the damn SR yet

I have one and am pushing 2 months now.

Is that because you haven’t bought the car yet?

Is that because you haven’t bought the car yet?[/quote]pretty much. although i dont think i will buy a car from here anyways. things are looking bleak in Ontario.

AppleSauce gets nod for the longest swap. I think he took a few years or
some shit. :dunno:

He should chime in any second in this thread with a supporting comment,
or some blatant comment about my swap. Only because he loves me.

Nutta, I say we join forces and make a car with an SR. We’ll take turns driving it.

my SR swap

  1. buy clip and bring back from niagra
  2. strip clip down writing down what goes where
  3. pull ka
  4. do gaskets on sr (brake manifold stud +1 week)
  5. pull of bumper swap rebar rad supports clean up and drop in 180sx lowering harness
  6. swap lower control arms, tie rods, wheel hubs, 180sx brakes
  7. drop sr in and assemble all around it
  8. pull dash out
  9. drop in 180sx interior harness and adapt it to LHD and hook to rear end of the car
  10. put the dash back in and start pressure testing all peices cause boost is shaky
  11. replace intercooler and figrue out mafs was dirty
  12. drive it

that took about 2 months, no friends, no airtools, no lift, small garage, depression and listening to 102.1 the edge

AHEM
I put in a few hours. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t know what was worse… the snow+freezing cold… or working with “the supervisor” constantly nagging.
