you wont see them. they are out.
this fucking thing is a nightmare.
you wont see them. they are out.
this fucking thing is a nightmare.
What happened to all of the phones? Are they just holding them back until they can flash the new OS on them?
Just so everyone knows,
I went to Verizon 2 nights ago to buy the new env2 ( i HATED the touch screen on the storm, and the dare sucks for texting)
The sales rep told me to wait until Dec. 1st because EVERY verizon phone is going to come down atleast $50. So if you can wait another week or so to get a phone, do it.
I could give two shits about price. I just need a global BlackBerry so my executives can go to Germany in two weeks with a phone that will work over there and get their emails.
well thanks to verizon i wont be able to move till february. as far as it being a nightmare evolve imagine how the at&t people felt when the iphone launched.
reps dont know when pricing is going to change
Any orders from 22-now are shipping 12/15, and that could get pushed back.
they apparently greatly underestimated the demand.
I couldn’t care less about retail customers.
I’m taking a beating from my resellers though. In fact, one is getting “fired” from the program due to this.
well regardless this shit was handled poorly.
So…how come no one has blown up this thread with how this phone is? Anyone actually get one yet?
i could have gotten one but the dude in the store friday was a jackass and said I couldnt if I ordered over the phone…
I called to cancel my order over the phone since they fucked it up and it won’t be going out until the 15th despite the fact i ordered it well in advance and they told me that if i goto a store and get one i can just send the one back that is getting shipped.
no. Verizon is all out. Hence the silence.
Just got an invite

So you can go to the store with a bunch of people and touch it but not actually buy it? What a cocktease.
rob will be in the front row
This is the business applications, it was sent to BES users. Probably because we have about 50+ BB users in the company. Its not at a store, its at a hotel so i guess we can fuck the BBs after the presentation.
Watching your public rape.
I’ve got one…wrote up a quick review for another forum I’m on…
Design/Build
At first site I noticed it seemed a bit shorter than I expected…perhaps because I’m used to seeing I-phones which have a bit more height than the Storm. It’s also a bit heavier than I expected and out-weighs most phones out there but it’s not unbearable. This thing is built like a tank which has always been a strong point for blackberries I suppose. There’s nothing cheap about the case. It has a metal battery cover which just gives it that well constructed feel. The screen also seems like it’s well built which I was worried about considering it’s a huge button. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the back light bleeds through around the edges of the screen and the buttons. Almost makes it look a bit cheap and is a distraction at night but It’s not a deal breaker.
The shape of the phone also fits well in your hand while holding/talking. I was worried about this to since this is about twice as wide as any phone I’ve owned. I haven’t talked for any extended periods of time but I think it might get a little old holding it for a long conversation. Guess that’s why they make headsets.
The Screen
They got it with this one. Most reviews I read said the sure click wasn’t all that great but I couldn’t disagree with them more. I typed one sentence on the demo model and was sold. When touching the screen it highlights whatever you’re over and to select you press the screen. This cuts down on accidental clicks and makes them almost non-existent. That also leaves double-taps to be reserved for other features like zooming in. I’ll say it…this feature is going to revolutionize touchscreen devices.
The OS
Buggy. Which is to be expected since this is shipped with an old version of the software due to a security glitch on the originally planned release software. The biggest annoyance is probably how it’s slow. Even switching the screen between orientations takes 2-3 seconds. It’s also a bit glitchy when it’s not quite perfectly oriented one way or another…it seems to get confused as to whether it should be in portrait or landscape. Biggest annoyance of all is when the phone rings and is in landscape mode. When you pick it up and push the answer button on screen it won’t answer since it’s busy flipping to portrait mode (since you’re picking up the phone to talk). I’ve had it ring in my ear multiple times after I thought I answered it. I guess I could just press the hard key to answer calls but I just like using the screen…
I put those screen issues in the OS section since I’m guessing it’s a SW issue. An accelerometer is fairly simple so I doubt it’s an issue with that. A new version of it’s expected out in a few weeks so I’m hoping that fixes those.
Other than that you’re left with the perfectly simplistic BB OS.
This is what a BB does best and it’s no exception here…and at the same time nothing really different from past versions. When selecting a message from the list it sorta scrolls onto the screen “bumping” the message list off…sort of a nice touch. It also has soft keys at the bottom to quickly compose, reply, forward, and delete messages.
Web Browsing
Here’s my main problem with BB’s…their browser sucks. It’s slow and clumsy. I will admit it’s a bit better on the storm but it still takes a while to load long pages and it just makes it more difficult to navigate than need be. The touchscreen does make it easier to navigate and this version seems to handle scripts better but certain pages still came out goofy looking. I’ll probably load Opera on it soon to see if that helps…at least until Firefox gets their ass in gear on their mobile browser.
EV-DO is quick enough to load pages but Wi-Fi would be nice when I’m at home…especially since I’ll probably be using this instead of my laptop a bit more.
Calls
My main annoyance was the way you answer them but again will hopefully be resolved with SW. Other than that calls sound awesome…crystal clear and reception seems to be great everywhere. The speakerphone seems to rock also.
One thing that’s always been overly complicated on phones is creating a 3-way call. However on this one of the soft keys while in a call is to add a participant. Click that, add the number, and when they pick up you have a conference call.
Battery
It actually died pretty quick. I used it a lot Saturday and still had half a battery left when I went to bed so I figured there’s no use charging it since I should have enough to get me through Sunday. However by noon it was dead with only a couple missed calls and some e-mailing. Apparently just being on standby chews up a decent chunk. I still don’t see an issue with charging it only nightly with somewhat heavy usage.
Media
Haven’t had a chance to load any onto it but it came pre-loaded with a trailer for Babylon AD. This screen looks as good as any I’ve seen…I couldn’t believe a phone could display video this clear. The external speaker leaves a bit to be desired but it’s better than most phones…with a set of good headphones sound is perfect too.
Overall
This isn’t an I-Phone killer. Not because it isn’t better (it is) but because Apple doesn’t make it. It’s going to take a miracle to get that fan base to swing over to another platform…there’s just too much nut swinging on Apples products. With that said this will destroy the iphone is almost everything. The lack of wi-fi is a bummer but Verizon does have a point and they do have signal seemingly everywhere. The iphone might be a bit simpler to use but that’s just because it doesn’t have half the features this does. The only leg up the iphone has is the app center and RIM is working on it’s own version although I doubt it’s going to be as “open” as Apples.
Alright, enough with comparing it to the Iphone. The Storm is hands down the best Blackberry and phone Verizon has ever had. The people lining up for this that have never even touched a Blackberry tells me this is going to be big for Verizon. People are not only willing to pay $200 for a phone they won’t use half the features on but also $30 for the required data plan.
Go out and get this (when it’s available again). You honestly will be happy with it. If you’re still not sure go mess with a demo model and you should be persuaded quickly there after.
Ouch. NYTimes just bashed this phone pretty hard.
I played with it for a minute…I really like the keyboard.
