BB Storm

I played with the storm…I had a hard on for 2 mins but then it went away, over all I didn’t really like it as much as a thought I would…bummer.

me too.

:grouphug:

i really want to like this phone a lot more than i do. i think i’m biased because my curve was a pile of shit. i’m shocked by your review terry. that’s the first really positive stuff i’ve read about the screen and the “click” and all that.

i think what blows my mind is how everyone just accepts the browser on the blackberries. that thing is so shitty. i was really hoping they’d fix that with the launch of the storm.

I was not impressed with it. Needs some work, I have liked rims products in the past, I think they just released this too soon.

:mamoru:

Pretty sure I just saw a commercial showing the prices of the enV2 and voyager down like $50-$70.
glad I waited.

p.s PM’ED

I honestly like the way the screen types. You’re not going to type 40wpm on the thing but the visual confirmation before pressing does help a bit.

I think they might use the autotext (or whatever you call the feature where it learns your words) to chose letters. After loading them from my Pearl the keyboard worked even better.

I don’t know…I’ve had it for a week now and except for a few minor issues (that I’m assuming is software related) I think this phone rocks.

And yeah, they should have put a little effort into an upgraded browser for this. I still haven’t loaded opera but am guessing that will be an improvement till firefox’s mobile browser comes out.

If you do try opera please post up about it i would be interested to see your thoughts. I expect mine in a few weeks due to my sales person being an uneducated drain on society. Hopefully by then the software may have a tweak or 2 to fix some of the known issues.

Excellent write up by the way.

:word:

fggts…

i got a chance to play with this tonight…

honestly, call me a iphone fanboy but i am not impressed. i do like the press in a way that it allows me to not accidentally press anything but typing anything longer than a few words was pretty annoying.

also, we did some test loads of some images and files between the 3g iphone and bb storm. that part is comparable so the speed is not a decision maker, just what type of screen you like the best.

but being on at&t is a decision maker for me. It has never worked and will probably never work in my house yet verizon gives me 3 solid bars constantly. Verizon has never let me down.

4.7.0.75 is coming out soon (possibly tomorrow) and fixes a lot of bugs including the lag on the accelerometer. Interesting to see if that fixes some of the other little annoyances I’ve seen too.

Yesterday I had some issues with the phone turning itself off randomly but it seemed to work itself out so who knows.

Just installed 4.7.0.75 yesterday

I went from wanting to return the phone, to wanting to keep it.

It stabilizes a lot of the accelerometer issues (albeit still some issues when tilting it) and speeds the overall OS up a TON.

Buttons actually react when you push them, instead of it freezing for a second then working.

It speeds up the browser as well.

First thoughts : Blackberry Storm

  • This thing is fucking heavy.
  • This thing feels solid.
  • Screen is really nice.
  • Moving the screen is scary, but it feels solid still despite the click.
  • Clicking screen : At first it’s weird, but once you get used to it, it’s great and accurate (even with my fat fingers). However, I do seem to be typing faster than the screen can allow…
  • The camera, is simply, amazing. Slow though.
  • Menus are intuitive, just like the normal Blackberry. I may say that because of my familiarity with Blackberries, but yeah, it’s still the same blackberry OS with a better top level skin design.
  • Tethering speed : F A S T as hell
  • I was thoroughly surprised that it came with an 8GB SD card installed.

Overall, I’m happy with the phone after the OS upgrade. Before, I was seriously considering returning it to Verizon. After the update however, it is more of what I was expecting.

Ratings :
Functionality : 9/10

  • This phone has everything you need in a phone, however it may not be intuitive for the average user.
    Hardware Features : 9/10
  • This thing has an antenna for every band ever created (minus analog). The only thing it lacks is WiFi - which I still find useless for any mobile device.
    Software Features : 8/10
  • Well, it does everything I need it to. No flash support still, that’s a little annoying. Browser is a lot better than before, but still needs work. Still can’t beat this thing for email. Seamless integration with any old Blackberry is also a plus.
    Build Quality : 9/10
  • Can’t give it a 10 because I still am a little squeamish with the “moving” screen, but everything is rock solid.
    Call Quality : 10/10
  • Clear on BT, through the handset, and now - the speaker is so wonderfully clear. Reception is great, sometimes got better signal with this than my old curve.

Overall : 9/10
It’s not an iPhone killer. The iPhone OS is simply faster and more intuitive for the new user. It does however, does a relatively good job at bringing touch capabilities to a formula that has worked for so long. One or two more software releases, and I bet this thing will really rock out.

The only thing it lacks is WiFi - which I still find useless for any mobile device

Isnt that a Verizon rule? For as long as I can remember, finding any PDA with WiFi on Verizon was hard esp when other networks offered the same phone with it enabled.

I wish I could ban you from cell phone threads.

the I760 has wifi. It’s been out for well over a year.

hell, the xv6700 had wifi. that shit came out in 05.

That is why it was a question. Notice the “?” at the end of it

My example would be the Treo’s when they came out. The same phone on Sprint had WiFi and everything but the Verizon edition was stripped down. Just wondering if this was a Verizon rule or are makers not putting it on.

wifi was not in any storm versions with the canadian and overseas companies. Its not a verizon rule but it seems like it sometimes. Still the best coverage though so w/e

Ya now with 3G in tons of areas, the need for WiFi is kinda pointless now. It would have been nice to have on a 1x Treo before EVDO was popular. Lol.

Got my storm this morning. Still working on getting it to play nicely with the BES. I like what I see so far. 4.7.0.75 will be going on it tonight.

You having problmes with BES?

wifi on PDA phones is for fucking fggts.

sucks the battery dry and with mobile broadband it is not needed anyways.
