Oppression? Stop with the hyperbole, Fry. You’re better than that.
The only people something like this would single out would be dangerous riders.
It’s not irrational to have different levels of licensing for different iterations of the same type of vehicle. Sort of like airplanes.

Boxxa, I wish something more effective could be done about cell phones, but weighing the public policy benefits of having a cell phone available to a driver outweighs the cost of not having one. I’m sure more lives are saved by a motorist being able to quickly call for help than are lost from distracted driving… For now maybe.
The same analysis doesn’t work for my sport bike proposal.
Good point though. Better than some of the dense, cromagnon posts by a couple others here.
This thread is an interesting view of the power of emotions; over 3000 views and 182 posts. How many people have died since this thread started. Just an observation.
Don’t worry about word choice. Stay relavent mr law student. To fly there are different licenses for significantly different types of vehicles. Small personal craft, commercial jets, etc. Sort of like how with road vehicles we require different licenses for autos vs motorcycles vs semis. Again, we already have what you are proposing, so by singling out sportbike riders I reassert that you simply want to oppress the group you personally don’t like.
I ride a sportbike (sort of). I just don’t like the irresponsible riders on sportbikes. I’ll own that.
Oh, and I just graduated. Studying for the bar now, so I guess I’m still a student for a little while longer…
And as I said before: all this was thought up during my morning shit and I’m not even on board with all of it. I did want to start a conversation on the topic and bounce some ideas around.
Avatar, as I said to everyone in the last 290 crash thread, you’re just being reactionary. There is no law that you can add that would have prevented this or even improved their odds of survival. Changing / adding to the law might make you feel better about “doing something” but won’t bring them back.
Machines that are fast don’t kill people; people kill people.
I feel that something can be done to prevent risky people from taking these things on the road. A revokable license may do that. As Geoff said, responsible serious riders will not see such a thing as a deal breaker.
I would also like to see 21 as the minimum age to get a motorcycle license. I think 16 is too immature and a rider should have more road experience as a driver before they become a rider. I know it wouldn’t have helped here but it’s another point to consider.
I don’t think it would solve problems but just going along with that comment logic that sport bikes kill people should be banned. I can think of 100 things that people do while driving that are dangerous as hell and put others at risk.
Licenses won’t help people who are going to ride like ass holes. Hell, I am sure that 90% of the people that pass their drivers test still don’t drive that way. I know I drive a lot different now than when I was taking my road test.
Sorry guys but its real simple. Either buy a sportbike and use it responsibly or pay the price for speeding whether it be a hefty fine/jail time or your life. Its pretty cut and dry on what your options are. This is exactly why sportbike riders have the reputation that they do.
Are you fucking serious dude? Again, your blaming people for posting a video that he put on his own facebook for the world to see.
Making them look bad??? They are doing illegal things on video on public roads and posting them on their facebook. How is that dragging shit out, its the truth and they aren’t doing anything out of the ordinary.
I’m sorry but some of you must be living under a rock. Come back to reality…
