Big motorcycle accident on the 290...

And since no one has said it. Its one thing doing 100+mph by yourself. be smart, Dont do it with a person riding passenger. Your not only risking your life, but putting someone else’s life in jeopardy that cannot control what can happen.

I agree this is a tragedy. RIP.

It always blows my mind to see bikers doing stupid stuff (wheelying through an intersection was one of the latest stupid things i’ve seen). Stuff like this just shouldn’t happen. Fry’s got it… please learn from this if you haven’t already!

this is very sad to here, i think i saw them at mighty when i got there, after i heard about this for some reason i immediately thought of them unfortunately it was. RIP

edit: all you guys that ride be careful out there

This is sobering.

No one is invincible out there. I think Chris (Motocross) said it the best when talking about dangerous riding and wheelies. “Why would I want to add to the list of things that are trying to kill me”

I didn’t know them, but sounds like they were well known and respected.

Sad to hear, my condolences.

I think I have a different outlook on life than a lot of people. Doing dangerous stupid stuff that can kill you is awesome, so long as you accept the risks of it.

It’s doing dangerous stupid stuff that can kill other people that I don’t agree with…

Agreed Completely.

That sucks.
Jose was fun on 716riders.

This is the exact reason I hate riding 2 up with the wife. If our kids are going to get screwed over in life, it is not going to be because of a 16-60 y/o jackass texting or a minivan full of screaming kids.

There are very few 2nd chances to recover from bad decisions on a bike.
Everyone on a bike speeds at some point. I would put zero faith in the 100mph guesstimate. Most people are not capable of judging any speed 10mph faster than they are traveling. (Thats an opinion and not fact)

RIP guys. I hope your families can get through it.

Doing dangerous stuff that can kill you is radical, but becomes selfish when you do manage to kill yourself and completely ruin your family. How can any parent deal with seeing their child die in such an unnecessary way?

Even if he accepted it in his head and was riding alone, if the one guy was riding on the highway with a cracked wheel and it contributed to his death, that definitively isn’t awesome. :meh:

That changes once you have little people. You become their whole world.
(works for midgets too)

I can’t imagine what the truck driver must be feeling like right now knowing that he ran someone over. There’s nothing you can do at that point.

How did this cracked wheel thing surface? Was it Rich or Jose that had the wheel that was busted?

The speed estimate was based on a State Trooper, who are trained in visual speed judging.

http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/Deadly-Motorcycle-Crash-on-I-290-123437224.html

“Witnesses, including a New York State Trooper who radioed Amherst Police, say the bikes were traveling at a high rate of speed, estimated at over 100 mph, when the incident happened.”

Edit: While doing 100+ on the 290 or any public road for that matter isn’t smart, its very easy to do in a short amount of time on a modern sport bike.

I used to be REALLY good friends with both of them. Rich had the orange 350z and him and I would always cruise around together, we were the only 2 orange cars driving around all the time haha. He didn’t always make the best decisions with vehicles but nonetheless it was shocking to hear him and Jose were killed last night. We had a falling out and I haven’t talked to him in years but I still send my condolences to his family.

Maybe it’s just me, but I still distrust the data and news reporters.
I can agree to 100mph +/- 20%

Are you sure this is the right rich? There was another Rich out that way that I worked with who had an orange 350Z. That was Rich Falk.

Caught a news clip this morning and they showed one of the bikes with the front wheel cracked off and completely missing. Don’t know if that happened before, during, or after the initial crash but it could be a cause…

Sucks to hear, really sobering news :frowning:

ugh.
