Body panel repair?

Is ther some easy to use, or easy way of fixing deep scratches in a plastic bumper cover?

no

OK

Whats the hard way?

sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, sand, sand, prime, sand, clean off, paint. Depending on how bad it is

And what would be the filler of choice for somethign plastic?

fusor makes good plastic repair products

flexible plastic bumper repair…i think i’ve used the fusor stuff before.

whats this “plastic welding” i hear about?

depending on how severe the damage is on the bumper
then might be able to tell you what products can be used.

Fusor is 2nd to none… we have a full cabinet here and it never gives us any problems. When I was young, I remember ripping my rear fender on my YZ80… it was a pretty big tear. My dad fusored it and it held for over a year… and that was with wrecking on it I couldnt tell you how many times after it was fixed. Eventually it broke, but it was a really bad tear.

It depends on how bad the scrathches are… if they are fairly fine you can get away with icing instead of a thicker filler. Post some pics.

THe deepest of the scratches are about 1/8th inch deep. the rest are finer.

You could do that either way… you could use a skim coat of filler or flex filler, then do a skim coat of icing. Pics would deinatly help…

I will try to get some close up pics tomorrow.

Here are a few pics. I was wrong the deepest of these is maybe 1/16th inch, but probably less.

1 More question, if I spray this with a base/clear, is there any flex addative thats needs to go into the paint? The last paint I shot was single stage enamel, and i remember adding flex addative, and hardener to the paint before spraying.

i’m pretty sure in dual stage paint, the flex agent is already added to color, but you’ll have to add to the clear.

Flex does NOT come in base / clear coat paints. It MUST be added. If not you will definatly be re-doing it in a few weeks.

OK, so i have decided to repaint the full bumper cover is their some special way of stripping the old paint? Or just hit it with the DA, and watch the dust fly?
