Car color vs Insurance rate?

So i was in class today and someone said that red cars have higher ins premiums. I was like bs that makes no logical sense. So I called Geico and they confirmed they do not care. But half of the class, including the teacher doesn’t believe me.

Anyone have any legit source to the answer?

there are more red cars on teh road, that could factor into it.

I’ve had a red car since I was in High School.

I pay $70/month with Geico and full coverage on my 3

I have a red convertible and my car insurance is pretty cheap.

I have 4 cars on mine 3 of which are fully coverd and i pay 800 every 6 months. Hemi orange, black, Flame red, and green.

Could they charge a higher rate if you’re Asian then if it can be statistically proven that they get in more accidents per mile?

lol.

But seriously I’ve had several red cars and my insurance is pretty damn cheap. I really don’t have much information to go on in this situation though.

Well depends on your deductibles too. I pay like $90 for Full coverage on my WS6, and liability on my 99 Escalade through Geico. But my deductible for my WS6 is $1,000. But when its back on the road i plan to lower my deductible so i can afford to fix it if something were to happen.

my gf has geico, and the color of her car was never asked… however they do take pictures of it… so who knows

Also I believe the VIN tells color.

Only logic I can see is that red car is more likely to get pulled over for speeding, so they form some correlation there to charge more

I really want to know if this works like employment discrimination law, where you can discriminate on whatever you want if you can statistically prove on an objective test that a certain factor is directly correlated with job performance

I’ve had four or five different insurance carriers and they’ve never asked what color the car was.

Myth #9: “The color of my car affects my insurance rate.”
False. The color of your car does not impact your car insurance rates. What does influence your rate is your vehicle’s year, make, model, body type, and engine size, along with your credit history and driving record.

so which is lying?

I don’t think it’s so much lying as the front line phone rep probably doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Fact: Car color is not part of the VIN
Fact: You get your car insurance quote long before they take pictures of your car, so they’re not using the pictures to determine color.
Fact: When I log into my Geico account online and go to change vehicle info, color is not even listed.

So if color does determine rate I’d love to know how Geico is magically figuring out what color my car is.

Geico never even asked me for pictures of my car.

right now somebody at a geico call center is telling their coworkers about how they told some idiot that red cars cost more to insure.

hahaha

lol, and I know 3 of them who would surely do that.
