Classic car insurance...?

so with the Z being a '90, she’s finally over 15 years of age…which i believe means i can now insure it as classic or antique or something like that, and pay mad less than i am now (with driving limitations of course…not that i can ever put many miles on it without it breaking anyways)…

i’m just curious what insurance companies offer this kind of policy for older cars, and what exactly the stipulations and average rates are…

i thought it was 20 and u have to be 25

^word

my insurance company was pretty cool. they straight up told me I can register my Z under my dads name.

Classic car insurance also means you are limited to how many miles you put on the car a year, isn’t it?

car is under dad’s name as is i do believe…all i do is write mom a check every 6 months…it’s nice to live at home sometimes…

and i do know that they limit the miles you can drive it, i’m just curious what they limit it to…

and i think choda’s wrong with the 20 year thing, because joe (91mr2) has his mr2 insured as classic this year too i think, and it’s a '91…

ok. deep breath.

over 20 is classic.

over 25 is antique.

with both you are limited to how many miles you put in the car every year. with my old vette, it was 2500 or 3500 miles a year…IF MY MEMORY RECALLS CORRECTLY.

the mileage is not enough to be able to drive the car everyday over the summer…as a daily.

you also have to show proof of storage during winter months.

the only upside is…i think i paid $158 for full coverage, for the whole year.

too bad i wont be seeing rates like that, or classic car insurance anymore :frowning:

ok…when i had my Porsche (which was a 1984) i serriouslt considered getting calssic car insurance. i was looking into going though Hagerty insurance, which i heard was the best. heres the deal:
the car has to be 20 years old,
the driver has to be 18 and have at least one other car registered and insured in thier name, you can only clock like 2500-5000 miles a year, and u can only drive it on a ‘pleasure ride’ (no driving it to work or school, not like they’d know though), and (heres the biggie) IF U ARE NOT THE REGISTERED OWNER OF THE CAR, YOU CANNOT DRIVE IT!!!
thats the basics of it, without going into too much detail. thats about as far as i got with it beofore i realized that it wasn’t the best option for my particular needs.

I’ve had classic cars all my life. I’m pretty sure there is no such this as a “pleasure ride”. All that they do, is check the odometer every year. You could drag with it, or you could take mom to church in it. Just keep it under the alotted mileage.

my mileage cap is 2k. $80 a year

knowing you Andy, ur gonna drive ur car lot. So id advise against it.

I just checked my papers.

I’m alotted 2500 miles and it costs $158 a year.

i just remember them telling me i couldnt drive it to work or school. not to say that you have the same requirements, but thats just what i have to say based on my experience

maybe because you are in the risk pool still?

or because its two totally different companies?

all i know it seems its dirt cheap…but figure it out.

in my instance.

$150 for 2500 miles. On average i would use a daily driver 18,000 miles or so.

18k divided by 2500 miles = 7.2. 7.2 x’s $150 = $1080. Thats way way way more expensive than i pay on two DD cars all year full coverage.

beck and mike pm me ur company please.

im gonna get ready, i only have a couple years.

yea dude gotta be 20 yrs or older and u can only have it on the road for so long with the miles thing varies form company to company…i think my dad has unlimited but can only be insured for 6mos out of the yr …

Mine was NO mileage cap, but must have license for over 10 years, value of vehicle was mutual agreement.

My company asked something about one of my vehicle being 15 years old, I gottat check that though…

My company is USAA.

Ok, I’m hearing a lot of different things. Most likely because we all have different companies.

I am 21.

My 1991 MR2 is now, for the first time, insured as a classic.

Our 1974 Beetle (Dad and I) is an antique.

The Beetle is ~150 a year (12 months), and my MR2 is about 260 a year (12 months).

Both have mileage limitations, in and around ~3000 per year, for each car.

We have State Farm.

Their policy is 10-24 years for a classic, and 25 and older for an antique.

That’s our situation…

I pay 750 bucks a year full coverage on my 2002 s2000… unlimited miles…

I suggest you get a new insurance carrier if you are getting assraped that badly.

FYI I have one accident and 1 point

what carrier… how old are you?

24 (sigh) years old

Progressive

Multiple car discount also, i pay a little under 700 for my gaylant (1992 VR4)

I also pay 6 months at a time.
