Cops and The Consequences

This happened quite a while ago, but I thought I’d share. It was in my dodge stealth / 3000gt.

After hours of trying to find car insurance on my 180, and dealing with insurance companies that had no idea what they were talking about, I finally called a big name company, talked to them on the phone for 10 minutes MAX and got a quote. Really nice and understanding of the car, and it worked out to $280 a month, which is what I was paying on my stealth. Great deal (considering I have an at-fault accident on my record), but… she said if I don’t win my court case in march things will change. Insurance will go to $390 a month from ONE ticket. This really bothered me. How can officers be so ignorant about the consequences of their actions? I get pulled over from a cop driving the other way from me, and he says he “clocked” me at 65, even tho I just came over a hill and there was NO way he had radar out driving the other way. So it turns out where I was driving was a 60 zone not a 50 zone, so really I was going 5 over the limit. Great birthday present (happened on the night my g/f took me to a concert for my birthday). I don’t think police officers realize that a $50 a ticket for an 18 year old can be a lot more than a $50 ticket. I guess thats what I get for being 17 and driving a black sports car at night (rolling eyes). I did the math and this ticket is going to end up costing me about $3 650 by the time its off my record! Thanks officer! oh well, I guess the only fool-proof way not to get a ticket is to not speed at all, even if it is 5 WHOLE km’s over the limit, god forbid. Lesson learned. I doubt the cop will show up to a minor speeding ticket case, but I’ll be prepared if he does. I’m thinking about hiring POINTS or something, simply because of what the 5km over ticket might cost me in the long run. Is it too late to get POINTS or something for early march? You think its worth it? Its a $50 ticket but worth soo much more than that.

Fight the ticket!!!

LOL for $3 650 you could’ve bought yourself not one but a COUPLE of hard drive cam corders that records while you drive. Aim one over the wind shield and one over the speedo. So God forbid if you ever get hooked all you need to do is play the tape…

Beltronics STI. Illegal, but undetectable

i wouldnt be to worried about the court date 99% ull get off with it not affecting your record.

Fight it, period. I’ve had two tickets, fought bought. Asshole gov doesnt deserve money. The end. All the recent ‘laws’ are nothing but new money laundering schemes and new different ways to rape your and everyone else’s wallet. If safety is a concern, perhaps Canada for once could have all highways without potholes.

Call up a ticket lawyer, they’ve gotten me off all 4 speeding tickets now, and my friend had about 40in 6 years, which they won 38 of. it’s pricey about 350, but if it goes on ur record u’ll spend that in 3 months.

I use Redline legal services the reason i like them is cuz most other companies don’t really try to win it for u just get it reduced they call that a win and you can do that ur self for free at ur first appearance. They really fight for you pushing most cases back over a year forcing the cop to give up or any other of there tactics. doesn’t hurt to call, tell them rory sent you u might get a little discount.

call up not guilty

9 km over the limit is speeding. It will most likely be dropped in court. Fight it.

Hey man, ive got about 3 tickets that are 15 and under. each cop i’ve gotten them from has said that insurace does not get affected ANY TICKETS under 15 km’s, and i haven’t seen any increase my insurance till today.

^correction…
any moving violation is adjusted through your premiums. points or no points are only effected by your license not by insurance. insurance don’t use the points system, they use major and minor offenses.

if your rates hasn’t increased, it might be due to several reasons.
1, you’re still with the current company and they haven’t looked over your record during policy renewal times
or
2. they let your first minor slide.

insurance reap on moving violations as that counts towards surcharges on your premiums.

if you renew insurance with another company and fail to tell them you got a minor ticket, when the underwriter does a follow up and sees that you didn’t tell them, they can cancel your policy which in turn is by far, far worst than a moving violation imo. unless your convicted with a major offense.

Yup…major = 50+ km/h over and minor = 0-49km/h over IIRC.

A ticket aka “offense” is an offense, and that’s it.

Pardon? Who let you back in anyways?

The real issue is the insurance company taking thousands extra per year for a +5km/hr ticket.

If I was a cop, I’d pull over young kids in “fast” cars, anyday.

I’m sorry, but the fact that you guys get tickets for 3-5mph over the limit is just hilarious to me. If it isnt 10mph over (16km/h) cops dont look at you around here, unless it’s a school/construction zone.

I miss the days of the Canadian Autobahn… :frowning:

For the mostpart that’s how it is here, too. Esp on the big highways.

There will always be that one asshole renegade cop… in every department.

fight it cause some insurance companies will screw your insurance premium!!

all :stuck_out_tongue:

I wish insurance companies would just be realistic and say “How much is your 240sx worth?”

You could answer them “about $3500”, and they’d have a quick look at your profile/age etc and say “Alright, sir, your premium is $52 per month”.

It’s INSURANCE, as in, IN CASE something happens, and some of us are “buying” our own car every year to insure it and their profit margins are just silly high.

That’s the aspect of insurance that is BS.

A ton of people with 2007 cars worth $45,000 and have less driving skills or are perhaps even higher risk drivers are paying similar monthly’s…I understand the risk/location factors and everything, but they really need to factor a car’s actual VALUE in a little more I think.

I guess now i’m supposed to insert the:

/rant

yeah its true, i wish it would be like that as well, the government says they want to get all the older cars off the road, especially with all the emissions and what not, but perhaps what they should really do is cap insurance or step in and do it themselves. as what stops most of the driver’s from buying a new vehicle is simply the insurance premiums.
one would have to buy a cheaper car just to pay the same rate as a newer car because they need to budget themselves enough to pay for the first and last month hit if you’re paying by monthly, and even than, older cars’ insurance premiums, usually exceed the value of the car lol.

That would be fine if all insurance paid out was price of a car, but when people get injured, and houses get hit, and they have to pay people for their time off, etc…

See where I’m going with this? You can’t just pay for your car, you pay for what you could do to others with your car, and how it affects you and them (can’t work, etc.)

That being said, I think the insurance companies are crazy. With the profits they are making on a REGULATED industry?! I shake my head.
