D2 Install

i was three inches off the ground with no lip for a while and i scraped my bumper on tight turns. i am now 4 and i have 1 finger gap front and back and my back dont go low enough for my liking.

Luckily i will be starting a course in college in sept and i will be able to corner weight my car and do my own alignments as part of my course (Y)

Ok, I’ve made some adjustments and I’m happy with the ride height on all four wheels. I noticed that when I was going fast and hit a bump, the driver side front wheel would hit the body. So I changed the damper to 4. Now I have 4 in the front and 2 at the rear (maybe change that to 3).

There’s this weird noise coming from the front left shock when i go through bumps. I know with stiff suspension I’m suppose to feel every bump but do I have to hear it too? Do all of you hear suspension noises here and there?

when i installed mine and took it for my first test drive, i had a loud clunk from my drivers shock, i realized that the strut was not tight against the upper pillow ball mount so i tightened it down and no more problem. Mine was bad yours doensnt sound too bad but i bet thats what your problem is.

Phil, many that have bought the D2s, bought it for a few reasons: Cheap,
adjustibility, and stiffness.

If many were seriously concerned about achieving the most out of their
D2s, they would have spent the extra time to fine tune it and given
thought to cornerweighting (like your friend did at the track).

A lot of them on here can get away with installing it, playing with the
dampening/height settings, and getting the car aligned.

sounds awesome,

i’d really like to dial in the suspension a bit more, hopefully after the alignment.

but then again, i keep having to take it out and back in all teh time, which would kinda mess with any settings. jeez i must have reinstalled my front suspension 4-5 times…

You know what, I did tighten it and the sound went away. After driving it on the highway for about 15 min, the sound is back again. Everything seems tight. The sound is only there when I’m going 60 KPH or less. After 60, the car runs smooth and produces no clunk sounds whatsoever. What could the problem be? It really bugging me.

I have taken the wheel off, retightened everything several times. The sound is still there. The sound is louder when the bound and rebound happens within a split second or so. The thing that irritates me is, why is this sound coming from the driver side front only? If all four did the same thing, I would’ve cared less. Did I, possibly do something wrong while installing the coilovers?

PLEASE HELP! thanks

dude, i have the same clunking in my driver front too, when i put full dampening it kinda goes away, but i hear it when i hit a bump going really slow, or if i take off the wheel grab the shock and shake the shit out of it, there is a clunk coming from the inside, talk to the person you bought it off… bing, andrew, varun… they should be able to help you with your problems.

actually its not really a clunk its more of a rattle… but still.

probably from stupid people taking them apart and putting them back togeather wrong… you know who you are

Ok, I figured out the problem. The pre-load wasn’t set properly. After setting the preload to 7 3/8 for all four of them, the ride is beautiful! the car corners beautiful and the sound is gone (except the rear). The rear has very slight noise which is hard to notice. Is the preload at the back suppose to be 7 3/8 or a little less?

how much do they cost? website? i searched but didnt find any info…

Thanks alot, do you happen to have one for the front too

Thanks,

Jon

Use the same preload of 7 3/8"

Sorry, i meant for the bottom, part of the front coil over, so the car will be pretty flat.

Thanks,
Jon

i have 7" on the fronts and 6 4/8 on the rear. Now all the clunk noises are pretty much gone. Rear left still makes a little noise but there’s nothing i can do. no threads left to decrease(tighten the spring tension) pre load (on the rear ones). i’m gonna have it checked out by a shop soon.
