all i can say is that no, i dont like anything about it, that is all
:word: so true
plus if you get 10 pm’s from someone about an item you’re selling, you may sell the item to the person who most recently sent you a message, instead of the 1st person who sent you a message. thus basically screwing the 1st person who pm’d you cus you only read say…the 1st message that happened to be the most recent.
i think this is stupid
Was classifieds really out of control to the point where a lockdown needed to happen? I don’t think so. Why don’t you just let classifieds, like offtopic run itself? Let people lock their own threads when the sale is made.
This is a very small forum, the classifieds section is now overly complicated.
:word:
makes sense to me :gotme:
50/50 I have mixed feelings.
Why I disagree:
Sometimes people need feedback by others who may have the same item or have owned it before (like a car for example) and can provide positive/ negative feedback.
Why I agree:
As a seller I dont want the same fucking retards (I’ll keep names out it for now) low balling me or making OT posts that don’t belong in my thread. When I sell something I’ve always ask for someone to PM me for this reason.
2 weeks ago I wasn’t able to even post in my own FS: thread created by myself, now I see I have the ability to post in other people’s FS: threads.
<-------confused to the point of not dealing with the classifieds section.
less than 8% voted in favor of it… meaning 92% do not care or dislike the system…
seems like the trial was a failure based on democracy…
:gotme:
EDIT… i wish i knew who the “yes” votes were… way to fuck up newman
I voted yes. I’m hoping they make me a mod because of it
So this is gay…
I’m in the Classifieds Users group…but can’t start a FS or WTB thread
Should have voted yes
For anyone who is interested in facts. In October, Moderators updated the sticky warning the community about the out of control classifieds. The moderators were rightfully tired of cleaning up threads filled with drama and bs.
As a community, things carried on in a manner other that was wanted by the moderators of this forum. We were given an opportunity to change things and did not. In fact I am sure they became worse.
The community dug its own grave with the classifieds garbage and now you are all so quick to make it everyone elses problem. Quit bitching. If you have the time to continually bitch and moan about classifieds, surely you have the time to PM a seller to find out if the item they are offering is something you would like to purchase.
Bitching for the sake of bitching is exactly what is wrong with this board. Everyone wants to be heard and when thats not happening, everyone yells louder. Very effective…obviously.
I like the classifieds as they currently are. We were given a mile with going OT in classifieds and abused it heavily. Now we ALL have to pay the penalties for it.
And I don’t see how so many of you have sand in your vaginas. Its 28 degrees outside. So unless you all just got back from vacation, STFU already.
fucking blows donkey balls
seriously
let the useless off topic banter continue, no one gives a fuck
2 times already ive seen mistakes in ads, i went to post the problem to bring it to attention, noticed I had to play the PM game, said fuck it and didn’t bother to look at the ad again
while you have some good points, saying STFU and deal with it is hardly the solution especially when it’s painfully obvious that a very large majority of the board doesn’t like it.
It’s Howie’s board… he can do with it as he wishes, but the fact remains that the users who make up the community of NYSpeed don’t care for it. Without the users, this would just be a page floating in the sea of the internets.
I could really care less either way, honestly.
When the boards action as a whole has created the strict new rules…you have no choice but to STFU and deal with it regardless. The very LARGE majority that is actually a minority of the board as a whole is what ruined it for the masses because they simply could not listen and follow the guidelines which are clearly posted in the Classifieds Sticky.
If you buy into the whole “the classifieds were out of control” arguement maybe. But most of us didn’t see a big problem with how they were being run.
From what I saw it all started when a certain sponsor cried that people would compare his for sale item to some ebay knockoffs saying they could get his item cheaper. Boo fucking hoo. If your item really is better than the ebay knockoff you are welcome to respond saying that in the thread, as will most of the members here. If it’s not any better than the cheaper alternative on ebay the forum members should let others know. Like I said when this first came up; a community forum is not a form of one way advertising like TV, Radio, or print. When you post something here you should expect discussion. Really want to protect your sponsors? Give them a classifieds section where only they can post. I think this was done, but this was the start of certain mods feeling classifieds were out of control.
Then the other “big problem” was people posting crap in FS threads. This fell into a few categories:
- Tire kickers with no money saying “I wish I could afford it”.
- Lowballers
- Drama starters
- Off topic posters
The first 3 take care of themselves. I welcome tire kickers in any FS thread I have. The more people saying, “I wish I could afford it” the better my item looks and the longer it stays on the new posts link without me wasting a bump. Lowballers get bashed by the community pretty quick, so that’s several free bumps that it takes me 2 seconds to skim past and reply to the lowball with a simple “no thanks”.
Drama starters is a little more interesting, and a real plus for the idea of a community based classifieds system IMO. Take my recent BMW FS post. If some flamer came in and said, “that car is an underpower POS and will constantly break down” just trying to start shit, what would have happened other than Rubicant’s panties getting bunched? I’m willing to bet at least of a page of knowledgable people like ColdAccord and MPD posting the virtues of BMW’s. Now what if it was MPD that said the car was a POS? Well, if he did that it probably is a POS and it protects the members of the community from being scammed. It’s hard for a seller to rip an NYSpeed community member off when we’re allowed to police our own classifieds.
So finally you have the off topic posters. It’s a very small percentage. Maybe instead of punishing the 90% of the users that think this new system is a horrible idea you punish the <1% who consistantly go off topic in classifieds. Hit them with a week ban, followed by a 6 month ban, followed by a permaban. Not sure if vbulletin allows it, but maybe just permaban their rights to the classifieds section.
When an item is not selling and you see offers from members close to your bottom dollar that were posted some time ago, you can see who offered what and negotiate, instead of looking through your PMs and hoping you didnt delete them.
Also, I like seeing FS threads on the new posts list. I’ve bought a bunch of things here on impulse, and I’m sure that goes for other members here to.
Ex. Who the fuck would look through NYSpeed classifieds for shark meat? Nobody, but people saw it on the new posts and bought it from me.
while maybe there were issues with the classifieds, the action taken was not wise. There are innumerable options that would be better than this…
