Dummy in a Camaro causes wreck on 90

If you look closely, there’s a shadow from another car in front of the Pick up when the Camaro attempts to pass on the right, probably wasn’t enough room for him to safely merge, so the truck sped up.

You can see in the beginning of the video the Pickup truck was following someone else in the left lane attempting to pass both tractor trailers. Once Camao guy pulled that first maneuver he was more focused on getting revenge and blocking him in for a little while.

yeah def a car in front of that truck for a while at the beginning but then no where to be seen at the end.

If the BAC level is indeed correct, then fuck everything else in my opinion. Of all the dumb decisions that could have been made along this journey, let’s start with the dumbest.

I think the issue here is that we’ve all been boxed in by someone not paying attention; whether it be mommy in her soccer van or granny in her Buick LeSabre. This is different. Given the circumstances here I think 80+% of this board would have probably boxed this cat in for a few just to piss him off. I probably would have, realistically. Aggresive drivers that do that on i-90 always really pissed me off. Nothing like the guy that tries to jump a spot or two in line right before passing the 18 wheeler then cutting everyone off in the process. Ugh I hated that so much.

No one expected the drunk inbred winner at life to take the bonus BONUS lane and take out everyone in the process. Hindsight is a bitch.

Maybe after watching this video the % of this board still willing to exact revenge drops a bit… or not. haha

Pickup truck driver gets a pass in my book.

The real victim here is the poor 18 wheeler operator.

OTF.

The grass pass was still dumber.

Exactly. I just drove 800 miles this weekend to NJ and back. I’d say 50% of the people on the thruway STILL have no idea how to properly use the left lane. It is the passing lane, period. You can cruise in the left lane all you want but you better be checking your mirrors frequently. If someone comes up on you, get out of the way.

And I’d say more than 50%.
If you’re not passing someone there is ZERO reason to cruise in the left lane.

I don’t feel like switching lanes 900 times though. As long as there is nobody behind me coming up on me, then I’m not holding anyone up. When the speed limit is 65, I will go 80-85 in the left lane. Every crest of a hill I will coast down to 75ish until I can see far enough ahead that there are no troopers. Then it’s back up to 85 until I hit another section where I can’t see far enough ahead. If I get to a really flat section and I can see for a mile or more, I’ll cruise up to 90ish. Very rarely will there be someone who wants to go faster.

I drive on the 90 probably 15k miles a year. It’s been getting worse as far as the big trucks being speed limited to 65Mph causing delays and road rage. They go exactly the speed limit and then when they hit a hill have no momentum to make it up at speed. Then you get another one beside it going .1 MPH faster and it takes 15 minutes to get by them. Ontario trucks are the worse - they are so governed they are gutless. It is extremely irritating, but not to the point of passing in the grass. I’ve zigged-zagged between left-right cars/trucks more than a few times. I’ve had cars do the same thing for 15-20 minutes. More and more people are just driving in the passing lane with no regard to what’s going on behind them. Many are completely surprised when the look up and I’m behind them or passing them on the right. We might as well leave rear view and side mirrors off cars.

I wonder how this situation would have been different if the guy was baked instead of drunk. Thank God weed is illegal and alcohol is legal. Whew.

Of everything they teach for your road test, etiquette is not one of them. If I go in the left lane, I immediately look in my rear view to see if there’s anyone coming up behind me. I don’t cruise in the left lane. Pass and get back in the right lane. I’m on board with everyone bitching about people “speed matching” others in the right lane. If people want to speed and pass you, let them. If they get nabbed it’s their fault. I can’t tell you how many people I’ve been behind, speed limit of not, just speed matching and day dreaming for miles. Flash the lights, no response. I won’t even start merging. I taught another guy this morning about trying to race up the right side of the “ending” lane so he could cut everyone else off just to save 3.7 seconds in his commute, and create a further traffic jam.

I am guilty of staying in the left lane on 219 and 400 but that is only because the only traffic behind me is the cars I just passed.
On the rare occasion someone catches up to me I make sure to move over ASAP.
Highly congested areas are different obviously. I still stay in the left lane but it is because there are ten of us behind a slow guy.

I guess I am getting old or I just spend WAYYYY too much time on the highway, but if I were driving the pickup and someone wanted to wedge themselves in I would have taken my foot off the gas and just let them in. I don’t play into the whole road rage BS. If you want in that bad sweet you can have it. I wont let myself of my work vehicle tangled up in some petty bullshit so I “teach someone a lesson”. I don’t get paid to teach people how to drive.

I’ll generally cruise in the left lane, but mostly for 2 reasons… 1) I’m usually going just a little faster than those in the right. I don’t want to be changing lanes every 30 seconds. I always do my best merge right if someone comes up behind me that is faster. 2) This is more at dusk or night, but I tend to stay in the left lane for reaction time… I grew up in a town with one of the highest accident and death rates due to deer jumping out in front cars. So even thought being in the left lane wont always help, I’ve successfully (knock on wood) avoided some really close calls with deer making a surprise appearance. I always try to be alert to them, and having an extra .5 to 1 second to react could very well mean the difference. So, you’ll probably see me in the left, but I’m not trying to slow anyone else down. If anything, I’m glad to see them clear the way for me

I never realized deer can only cross the road from right to left.

yea that justification is incorrect…if you’re in the right lane and you decide to swerve you have the shoulder and the left lane to swerve to…if you’re in the left lane you only have the right lane…
I’d hypothesize though that most deaths due to deer hits aren’t from square on hits…theyre from people swerving and braking at the same time sending the car into a roll. swerve or brake…don’t do both.

I’m usually a left lane cruiser and I usually set the cruise for 15 over. I will move over to the right if this condition will be met: I will be a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of me. As described by the NYS DMV manual a safe following distance is 2 seconds, and @ 80 mph that is 235 feet or ~15 car lengths. During commuting hours that condition is usually not met, on stretches of the 90 that condition is met. I’ll try to do a quick right left move if I see a car closing in fast. But an aggressive tailgater won’t phase me. I actually welcome it, I love seeing people flip their shit, sometimes they’ll dangerously weave traffic and pick up a whole car length on me staying my course of 15 over. The hilarious part is they do all this work and aggressive weaving to pick up a car length and then the on ramp comes, they brake, I keep the cruise on (maybe lean on the throttle a little), and put 50 car lengths on them.
