Size leverage comes to mind. Strategically targeting local businesses is a bit different than the internet too.
I’m not trying to say that WalMart is the sole cause of trade imbalance, but a store opening in a community is bad for that community.

As an employee you would have a union rep on site to answer questions about benefits or if you felt you were wronged in some way a union rep would help you out.
When my wife needed time off to have wrist surgery the managers were not allowed to answer questions about how to go about getting the time off or how to collect on her insurance through walmart. In fact the one manager that did end up helping had to have the room cleared so that no one would know what she was doing. That would not happen if you had a union.
And that stuff happens all the time with their senior employees.
Also you would have a better pay scale as you negotiate for higher wages. Many of walmarts employees leave after a year or two but their are many that try to make a living off of it, either because they have no higher education or they have a family and can not take the risk of starting a new job.
My wife worked for walmart for 6 years and by the end she was selling cell phone plans, and before that she worked in the photo lab. All jobs that required special training to use machines and understand services. Thats a lot more responsibility than you average stock boy, yet she wasn’t even making $10 and when I worked their for a summer I was getting paid more than her. Under a union that would not happen.
Face it the higher-ups in walmart do what ever they can to take advantage of their employees and if you work thier you are virtually by yourself.
If you never worked their or don’t know someone close to you that does you can not understand.
work on your spelling, and you won’t have to worry about working at walmart
Holy Christ if the only reason you have for why Walmart should not be unionized is because of the UAW then please GTFO their are plenty of unions that work fine with their employers.
If you hate unions then hate places like walmart that still make unions a necessity!
They are still the countries number one employer.
Do you have examples of other un skilled unions?
Laborers? but they have been around forever and still blow shit up and beat down people so :tif:
People operate/maintain far more dangerous equipment at fast-food restaurants and get paid about as much as well. How much should someone selling phones, or developing film get paid in comparison to say someone that cleans out the fryers at Burger King/McDonalds everyday?
Off the top of my head, Tops is unionized, I believe a few of the other grocery stores may be. They managed to get little concessions like premium pay on sundays and paid holidays, and you’d have a little backing to take on management for you if they wanted to fire you for no reason or you got hurt on the job.
One of my first jobs was working in a nursing home kitchen and I was union.
the shear fact that Walmart hires more people then anyone else and that their policies and practices screw over their employees so that you and I can buy a $30 DVD player is why they need a union.
Could you imagine if the countries number one employer paid their employees a fair wage for the years they put in, how many people that would help. Instead of making the ridiculous profits that the CEO’s and shareholders make.
The only negative I see here is that maybe prices go up at walmart. Which would spike competition with other stores. And last time I checked, competition was good.
Unless you want just a monopolized walmart economy? Do you?
Have you been into a tops latley? They are in bad shape. They were Martins and then they fell through and went back to tops…
Wegmans is not union and far surpasses Tops
wat? Martins was just a brand change on a couple stores when they went through a company-wide reorganization. People around here weren’t familiar with it so they changed the name back.
And I still prefer Tops to Wegmans. Wegmans is so damn overpriced on everything. But that’s a different argument. The point I was trying to make was unskilled workers can be in productive unions.
Wegmans > > > Tops.
… unless you’re poor
I enjoy Wegmans brand food too if I wanted to save money. Tops brand anything makes me sick.
Wegmans just lowered prices, did Tops follow suit?
I prefer wegmans but not tier prices. Tops always seems to be cheaper.
Looks like Wal Mart is going in for the kill. They have commercials on now that they will match any competitor’s black friday ad prices, INCLUDING doorbusters. As long as it’s an identical item. Think at the end of a mortal kombat 1 match when it comes up, FINISH HIM!!!
Thats nothing new they have been doing that shit for years.
wegmans is cheaper than tops. people just assume they are more expensive because the store doesn’t look like shit and isn’t filled with poor people.
False. Especially on anything more “premium.” Or anything that is prepared. They mark that shit up to no end.
Not on doorbusters in my experience.
i agree. +1.
I compared the unit price of several items. It turned out that Wegmans IS cheaper than Tops. I was really surprised.
